Southern Discoveries Excerpt…

June is almost at the halfway mark… it is insane but I feel like the days are flying by… on an up note, though, I have found that jumping into another book (and all the writing, plus evil edits) has helped with writer’s depression… it is amazing how the high of having a book reach the publishing stage can disappear so quickly… doubt and depression is just waiting in the wings to swoop in to attack… what to do??? write, write, write… throw in an art project or two… and then write some more…

alright… my first newsletter just went out… sign up HERE …

here is the Exerpt of Southern Discoveries…  check out the first two chapters … now out in eBook and Paperback… here are the Buy Links

Southern Discoveries_ebook (1)

for June art projects, I have been working on some jewelry … I forgot to take a picture of the bracelet I made for my cuz’s (pregnant cuz) for her birthday… braided leather with baby themed charms… (pacifier, crib, stroller, heart that said – made with love, and feet imprints)…

okay… back to the writer’s cave… 😛 happy wordage, tracey

oh… and here is the link to my booklet post… make your own Swag…

I am planning to start a monthly Newsletter to send out important updates, new releases, giveaways, and other related book news… sign up HERE … and remember that I am giving away Free copies between now and June 9th *release day, to anyone interested in giving a quick review on one of their favorite retail/book sites… like amazon, goodreads, barnes&noble, kobo, etc… just comment and let me know that you are interested… I have copies available in Mobi (works on kindle), ePub, and PDF….

alright guys… I think that’s it for now…

Book Progress Update Day…

just days away from book two in the Finder’s Keepers series… I am spending today, hiding in the shade, covered in ice, and spraying myself in the face with water so that I can try to join Frist Friday on Main st… we will see if anyone wants to approach the woman drenched in sweat in order to buy a book… lol… fingers crossed everybody… it sounded like a good idea until I went out last Wednesday and felt the lovely (heavy sarcasm) 98 degree heat on my Multiple Sclerosis head…

anywho… take a look at these lovely covers for book one and two of Finder’s Keepers series, side by side… I love them…

Southern Discoveries comes out in ebook first (on June 9th)… and between now and then I am offering a free copy to anyone that is interested in doing a review (it doesn’t have to be long or involved, just a few lines somewhere like amazon or goodreads, one of the other retail sites) whatever you think (good or bad, I promise not to tell you if I cry) … Reviews are hard to come by and I appreciate each and every one…

alrighty… what else??? after getting some blog/book news updates done, I will be off to the writer’s cave… I have most of the third Finder’s Keepers rough draft finished, but before I finish that I want to focus on my Skymann series… Gone Writing Publish is looking over book one and said she is interested… I think I will work on the next few books myself, with editing help… I am just too dang impatient … lol… happy wordage everyone…

Southern Discoveries_ebook (1)

After two nights in a row, staying up to the wee hours of the morning, and growling at my computer as I fought to figure out how to format Southern Discoveries into an ebook, the pain, sweet, and swearing finally paid off…. muhahaahahahahaha…. I did it… take that MS….

Okay, so thanks to Pronoun.com it was pretty easy… the difficult part had more to do with my uncooperative brain than my formatting task…

Sooooooo….. about three in the morning last night, I looked at my screen and realized I was ready to hit the publish button… the ebook version was ready to go… now I only had to wait for the woman that created my book covers to finish with the spine and back cover so that I could set up the paperback format on createspace.com … and this left me with an opportunity that I hadn’t thought of before…

e2ff9c5d83ae2b06eb3efe8d2991c157

For the next week, I am offering FREE ecopies to anyone willing to leave a review… (Reviews really are the devil to get, but oh so important) … just drop me a line and I will make sure that you get your copy … even if it means I have to swear at my computer some more… 😛 … I already have the Mobi & Epub versions, and will have the PDF version later today…

And truthfully, it would be an enormous help if y’all could stop in at amazon, goodreads, or one of the other retailers, blogs, etc and drop a line or two one what you thought of Southern Discoveries… as the pre-order links go up, I will post them so that you know where to find the book in order to give a review, or you can wait until after it is out, and easy to find…

Most books are set up for pre-order months before the release date, but Southern Discoveries grew a mind of its own and took longer than I expected to finish… (and I might be a bit impatient) But its all good… because you guys get it now, and not months from now…. wooo whooo…

27d567a3d73ce4da7757538868fb419f

and lastly, I decided to set up a newsletter… you can get Finder’s Keepers & Skymann (coming soon) series info delivered to your email… this email list will hopefully allow me to offer more pre-releases, monthly updates, and other book related goodies… just head HERE and leave your info…

I didn’t think I would need an email list, not when I could just use Facebook, Twitter, this blog, etc. to send out updates… but I’ve found that there are certain sites that ask you to use something along the lines of MailChimp …. sooo take a moment and sign up to get your Newsletter

happy wordage everyone, Tracey

Watch me write…

like of the nano obsessed… Camp NaNoWriMo is almost halfway over… and this author is nearing 44k words, but hitting that 50k mark isn’t my goal… my goal is to finish both the novels I am working on… then I will have book two and three of the Skymann Series in the rough draft phase, book one (tentatively titled Artistic Beauty) is getting closer to being published… Mary from Gone Writing Publishing is looking it over as we speak…

CNW_Participant

also… Finder’s Keepers book two, Southern Discoveries is getting closer to the finish line… I have a book cover, and am waiting on editor to get back to me… then I will have a publish date (as soon as figure out the self-publishing mechanics…) but the ebook version will be easy as pie to set up… Pronoun.com has a wonderful set up that is easy to use and understand… woo who… as soon as I have a publishing date set in stone, I will do a cover reveal… I love it… my first cover was awesome… but this second one might be even better… I cant wait to show everyone…

20151007-shocking-finds-cover

the only other news I can think of at the moment is my awesome 25 foot walk at the neurologist… I already stuck this info up on my MS site, but I am so excited I decided to share it with you guys as well… 2 sec time… when I first got sick, my walk was 7+ seconds… each time I improve my time, I feel like I’ve just won a marathon…

Self pubbing???

Southern Discoveries…

well … it looks like Finder’s Keepers Book Two : Southern Discoveries will have to be a self pub novel… the first book got some positive attention but not enough for my indie publisher to spend more on book two, even though she read it and enjoyed what she saw… thankfully, she also read my contemporary romance and loved it… so while she helps me to publish my first Skymann novel, I will be learning about self-publishing…

it is my goal to become a hybrid author… getting my books out there through indie publishing, self-publishing, and eventually traditional publishing… one would think that this would be a perfect time to query publishing house to try the traditional route, but I don’t want my readers to have to wait for me to find an agent/publishing house… especially when I fear they will want the rights to the character/series… I would rather try them with a book that doesn’t touch either the Finder’s Keepers novels, or the Skymann novels…

so for now, Southern Discoveries will be in my unknowledgeable hands… wish me luck… I already know how the Ebook format works, but I will have to look into the paper back version… especially since I would like to get both Shocking Finds and Southern Discoveries ordered in paper back for my coming book signings…

okay… I need to go because I have been blogging all night on my Multiple Sclerosis site… and I am exhausted… later guys…

happy wordage, tracey

Get Beta’ed… muhahaha

Okay… fingers crossed, my first contemporary romance is in the hands of a Beta Reader… while I am still looking for a few more, I am cringing on the inside… I don’t think this process will ever get any easier… my baby is out there in the hands of a stranger…. okay, not a stranger exactly… the first person to accept the challenge of beta reading my first Skymann novel has gone through this process with me before… and she did a wonderful job on Shocking Finds: a Finder’s Keepers Novel…

so maybe I will get through this without chewing on my lip until it bleeds… it really is too bad that I’m not a nail biter, but ewwww…. I have never been able to stand that habit, in myself or in others… lol… mom is a notorious nail biter… but I once saw her keep at it until she ended up with an inflamed infection puffing and oozing around her nail… yeah… that is not the type of thing you un-see…

Now… I need to get a few pieces of swag ready for tomorrow’s signing… Info HERE… it may only be a local signing but you never know… 😛

Finder’s Keepers Series, Book Two

Chapter One

The portal tossed Quaidin Lari in every direction until he felt like his head was spinning and his stomach was about to evict all of its contents in any manner possible; north or south, he was about to be sick. Colors flew by in shades of burnt green and browns so dark they might as have been considered black. He could have handled the depressing color scheme and the runaway rollercoaster ride but the shots of yellow and brightest white being flashed before his eyes was too much.

Squeezing his eyes shut, Quaidin prayed to Lac Mar that the ride would soon end. He was one of the Fianna, the mercenary troop, taking over the job of policing the Fae community for the missing Sentinels. Hurling his guts up and pray to the Fae Goddess Lac Mar wouldn’t look very reassuring to those depending on the Fianna for safety. Besides, he was in charge of persuasion for his squad. He had all the allure of his Incubus heritage, but no one looked at the deathly ill and thought, “I want to tell this man all my secrets.”

Just when he thought that Fate had decided to turn a simple portal jump into a lifetime of confusion and punishment, Quaidin stumbled across solid ground, immediately falling to his knees. He couldn’t see straight yet but knew that he wanted to go home to Out-realm. Every time he came Earth-side, the experience cemented how much he hated the place. “Please tell me I managed to land in a patch of soft, foul smelling Kentucky mud.”

No one answered. Still, Quaidin refused to open his eyes. His knees were firmly planted on solid ground, but his hands had managed to find something disgusting.

Sitting up, his ass propped up on his feet, he continued to deny the truth. Eyes tightly closed, he started flinging and flicking his hands to dislodge the substance clinging to his skin.

His squad mates all started screaming at once.

“Son of a-”

“Dammit, Quaidin.”

“You lousy-”

“Stop that you-”

Grinning like a devil, Quaidin opened his eyes. Looking around at Casfin, Vloran, Zander, and Yolland he cut them all off. “We can all wear this muck together.”

Casfin, one of the most laid back and composed Captains the Fianna mercenaries had ever seen, looked like he was on the verge of homicide. Stripping off his clothes without a word, Casfin stalked off to a nearby pond. One by one, the others decided to follow.

Vloran was last to add his clothes to the growing pile. It wasn’t that the man was slower. For a nearly eight foot mountain, he could move quick swiftly when he wanted to. When he wanted to, being the key phrase.

Quaidin pushed himself up from the ground as Vloran turned to leave. “What’s the big deal? A little dirt never hurt anyone.”

Vloran glared over his shoulder, and said, “I believe the people Earth-side call what you landed in a cow-patty.” Seeing the, no doubt, confused look on Quaidin’s face, Vloran turned away in disgust. “Cow shit, man. You landed in cow shit.”

More than ready to go home, Quaidin ripped off his clothes and threw them on the burnable heap of mission clothing. Moving for the water, he barked, “I hate this place.”

Quaidin eyed the large beast lazily munching on grass the grass growing alone the bank of the small pond. Floating in the middle of the water, he felt safe in glaring at the cow. He felt like he was suffocating in heat and honeysuckle. How could it be so hot? Summers on Earth-side wouldn’t begin for another week. They needed to find the new Fae Princess and slip back through a portal to Out-realm before the heat level reached the nineties, or Lac Mar forbid, the hundreds.

“Come on Quaidin. Our ride should be here any minute.” Casfin dropped Quaidin’s satchel on the bank and walked off.

The cow moved suspiciously toward his satchel, spurring Quaidin to swim with increasing strokes for the edge of the pond. Keeping one eye on the animal, he pulled his body onto the grass and started jerking his spare uniform out of his satchel. Unless he wanted to wear his uniform for the entirety of the mission, he needed to locate something a little more fashionable for the area.

Vloran moseyed over – the man was the definition of relaxed – and tossed him a canteen of water.

“Thanks man.” Quaidin took a long pull of the slightly warm water. “Is the portal shut down yet?”

The portal they had just to get to Earth-side was a rogue portal. Their squad was in charge of shutting the portal down, but instead of taking care of the matter while they were still in Out-realm they had used it to travel closer to the Princess and their goal. Casfin had decided that using the rogue portal would put them closer to the Princess and the Danshue that had created the portal in the first place.

The Danshue, or evil Fae, were growing in number and they all had it out for Princess de Platadreki. They needed to secure the Princess and eliminate all threats along the way.

“Yolland and Zander are taking care of it. The portal was hastily opened, but that just means that it will be harder to close. It looks like someone just ripped open a hole in reality. Some of the spells used to open it need to be reinforced so that the entire does not explode as they attempt to close the link.” Vloran crouched down, his arms planted on his knees. His eyes continually quartered the area, watching the trees, the field, the nearby gravel road, and even the sky.

Pants on and shoes laced up, Quaidin checked the ground for any surprises before flopping down beside Vloran. “Casfin could close it in no time.”

Plucking a piece of grass to roll between his fingers, Vloran looked back at Yolland and Zander. “Guess the Captain thinks they need the practice. Would have done it himself otherwise.”

Quaidin took another swallow of warm water, refusing to even unpack his shirt until the last minute. He pinched a few strands of his light brown hair between his fingers and pulled the wavy mass forward. Squinting his eyes, he tried to determine if the missing blonde streaks were covered in mystery pond scum or if they were just heavy with water. He was about to ask Vloran what he thought when a large SUV came into sight, slowly driving down the one lane road at the edge of the field. “Looks like our ride has arrived. Maybe you and Casfin can stick you heads out of the windows.”

It was no more than the truth. Vloran had to be nearing the eight foot mark, and their dear Captain looked to be slightly over the eight foot mark. Quaidin didn’t know a lot about Earth-side, always wishing to keep his visits short, but humans rarely made it to seven feet. They definitely didn’t make cars to accommodate small giants. It was a good thing that human and Norms – those Fae born without magic – were unable to see anything placed under a glamor. Otherwise, Vloran and Casfin would have started a riot. What with Vloran’s silver skin tone and the light blue dusting on Casfin’s otherwise pale skin, it was hard to mistake them for human.

“Come on funny guy. With the mood Casfin is in, he may just leave your ass if you make him wait.”

Giving Chase

by Tracey Clark

My entry in this anthology is Giving Chase… a look at Savien Volt (A character that will drop by in book two of the Finder’s Keepers series)… here is an excerpt …

Savien Volt moved through the closely packed trees, checking for moss and berries, for tree sap and varying ivy plants. He was amazed at the number of potion ingredients to be found in the Kentucky area of Earth-side. Once he finished collecting ingredients from the trees and brush, he had a number of caves to explore for their limestone, bats, and other things that liked to dwell in dark, cool and damp places.

The cool breeze was a welcomed relief on his sweat soaked skin. Savien just needed a few more plants and then he could move into the cooler caves within in the Carter Cave systems to continue his ingredient hunt.

He could feel eyes watching him as he worked but refused to turn around. The man at his back would just have to wait for him to finish searching through the clover patches littering the ground.

If silence could crush the life from a person, Savien would have been in trouble. The power and feeling of anger coming from his visitor added enough weight to interrupt his train of thought. Glancing over his shoulder, he met Anton’s glare. “I already answered you, so why are you here?”

Antonius ‘Anton’ Slade moved slowly but with purpose as Savien turned back to his work. Moving around Savien’s kneeling form, he got down in the dirt and grass. Picking through the clover, Anton remained silent.

Savien worked to fill his potion’s satchel, but finally stopped. “I do not have time.” Still Anton said nothing, continuing to dig through the clover. “I mean it Anton. I have one week to collect all I need for the Queen. One week, and I still need to go through the caves. One week and I go back through the nearest portal. I need to get to work on the potions and spells that will help to promote a healthy birth. I plan to saturate the birthing chamber with positive energy, and I want at least a month to add to the –“

“Yes, yes. And you will. I will personally make sure that you have what you need. I will find your ingredients, while you find Trina Blue.”

“Look. I want to do more than prepare the birthing chamber. I need to –“

“Indeed.” Anton stood up and handed Savien the pile of clovers he had collected. Dusting off his pants and hands, Anton braced his legs apart and crossed his arms. “I am well aware of the protections you plan to place around the Castle. I promise that you will have more than enough ingredients by the time you need to leave for Out-realm. More than enough. Besides, the Queen has sent help and has already approved my request.”

“Fine. But screw this up and I will find a way to jinx even you.”

Giving a masculine chuckle, Anton walked off. “Jinx away, my friend. Just make sure you also bring Miss Blue back before you do.”

This NaNo writer has fallen behind… As reparation to this offence, the voices have demanded that I ignore all social media and set my fingers to work… no more book parties, no matter how much fun I had at the one I threw on Saturday, and blogging is to postponed until I hit that 50k word goal, or December 1st brings NaNoWriMo to a close… I have a second novel that needs to be sent through a round of edits, it also has a few holes that need to be filled… now that Shocking Finds is out, the voices demand that I get their story finished and ready for the public… it is way past time that I complete said edits, and the voices will not rest until they get their way…

Thankfully, they have allowed me to post two more blogs… the first blog is my way of helping out my fellow author on her blog tour, and the second will feature a piece that Anna Durand was kind enough to put together featuring Shocking Finds…

My favorite Fall Activity has to be taking pictures of all the changing colors, the leaves falling to the ground in reds, yellows, and browns… and so many other colors. It is also the only time of year that I feel comfortable walking through the trees. The cool crisp air gets along with my MS, and I get to enjoy the outdoors. I love the way the world smells and feels.

I also love to paint and write in the fall, not that I don’t normally love these activities, but fall seems to recharge my battery. It seems right that my first book was released this fall. Shocking Finds is a paranormal/fantasy romance at its best… Fae assassins, betrayal, and undeniable lust…

Walking into Finder’s Keepers, Marin admitted just how screwed she truly was. Her small electrical problem got worse every time she lost her temper. And the person she needed to ask about said problem? Marin had shocked the shit out of Kyland and watched as he disappeared. Crap and double crap. Her latest episode had ended with the death of both her television and most of her living area lamps. She couldn’t afford this new gift. If she lost her coffee maker, Marin would be having her new power bound, or cut out, or whatever happened when a person chose to have a gift removed.

Looking around the office, counting all the antique furnishings, Marin started to second-guess the merit of her intentions, running in to pick up some Finds to work on at home. Between the French terra cotta flooring, with oak wood inlays, and the antique Persian Sultanabad rug running underfoot in the sitting area, the cheapest decorative items to be found were the Tiffany lamps and other assorted light fixtures, fixtures that could explode at any moment, raining glass down on all in sight. Not exactly a cheap mistake to have to clean up.

On top of everything else, the hospital had informed Marin that Lindal remained in her coma-like state. She didn’t understand what little information the nurse had been allowed to give her over the phone, and the lack of solid facts was enough to drive a saint over the edge. Waiting for visiting hours, to speak to someone face to face, had Marin’s nerves on edge.

Did Lindal have internal injuries? What did the doctor think? Marin could only remember walking back to see Lindal. Everything else remained a blur. A surreal and crappy day. She just needed to kill a couple hours— or five. Add in the drive time and she should get to the hospital just in time to sit in the waiting room. Okay, she needed more to do. Even driving under the speed limit, the hospital was only forty minutes from her house, just outside of the city.

Freezing in place, Marin remembered her poor van. She had allowed Kyland to take her home, to desert her vehicle.

Continuing down the hall, Marin reworked her day to accommodate her van’s retrieval. She couldn’t keep driving Lindal’s car.

As Marin passed Anton’s office, she heard the answer to one of her problems. Kennith’s voice boomed out into the hallway, and Kennith meant Finder cases that involved the Finds that Anton said that she wasn’t ready for but hopefully he would make an exception just this once. She didn’t normally work on those, but she was desperate.

Sure, Kennith worked for the SBI and mainly worked with Finders that had previous law enforcement training, but maybe they would allow her to help out in some small way.

Marin walked into Anton’s inner sanctum and came to an abrupt halt as Anton and Kennith turned disbelieving eyes her way. Shoving her hands into her pockets, she anxiously bounced from foot to foot, wondering if she should have knocked. Anton’s policy had always been an open door policy. If the looks aimed her way were any indication, things must have changed. This was her first time seeking Anton out in his office, and the door had stood wide open, but that clearly didn’t mean come on in.

The level of silent scrutiny became uncomfortable, a suffocating tension building in the air. Really, Anton could just ask her to come back later. He owned Finder’s Keepers, after all.

“Did I do something wrong?” Marin couldn’t believe that her one hope at creating a distraction from her day looked to be one more log for the stress pile.

“Come in and shut the door, please.” Anton’s voice came out crisp and demanding.

This couldn’t be good. Anton had never had a closed door meeting with her. Or with anyone that she could remember.

Marin frantically tried to think… What had she done wrong? She needed this job. Unlike most Finders, she had to work Finds. She didn’t have a choice. She would be overwhelmed by her heightened senses without her current job. If she went too long without a Find, she started to feel her senses pulling, searching for the lost without her permission.

Working at Finder’s Keepers had become the perfect outlet for Marin’s overwhelming senses. She could unwind and keep her senses from overloading while Anton happily pointed her in the most profitable direction.

Marin pushed the door closed and squared her shoulders, trying to prepare herself for the worst, while doing her best to block out the increasing buzz in her temples. The stress of waiting for Anton to speak had her head ready to explode. Blinking rapidly, Marin smoothed her sweaty hands against the top of her paintsplattered jeans, trying to remain calm.

If Marin didn’t want to lose control of her emotions, and her gift, out in the waiting area, she definitely didn’t want to start blowing up Anton’s office. She couldn’t help but stare in dread at the vintage Lalique Perruches glass lamp perched in a place of pride on Anton’s desk. The damn lamp cost nearly five grand. She had cringed at the price while helping Anton locate an antiques dealer to replace his broken one. Now she shook her head, accepting the dock in pay that would come her way, once the shit hit the fan. She didn’t know what the chairs and love seat had cost, or even the elaborately carved bookshelves, but the Persian rug would be another twenty grand or so, should the flying glass from the exploding lamp do any damage.

The way Kennith kept gawking at her maybe she was dying. Then again, maybe he was. There was no way that much shock on one man’s face could be healthy. Any minute now, Kennith would surely pass out. He didn’t even appear to be breathing. Marin focused on Anton, instead. Kennith obviously needed some privacy. No one should be seen looking so weak. He was a police officer, for heaven’s sake, and he looked ready to run, throw up, or just keel over on the spot.

“How?” That one choked out word didn’t come from an expected source. Apparently, Kennith could still speak. Now, if he could start making sense.

Marin waited for more. How what? When it was clear that Kennith either couldn’t, or wouldn’t, say more, she looked for Anton to finish the question.

Anton said, “You’re radiating power, my dear. Then, of course, there is the question of your soul-bound shadow. I think our friend Kennith is asking about the nature of this increase in power as well as the acquisition of said shadow.”
