V.L. Locey drops by on her blog tour

One of my Gone Writing Publishing peeps was kind enough to drop by and chat with us… she also wants to introduce us to the steamy life of female pro hockey… oooo… I can’t wait … 😛 enjoy

Fighting the bumps in the writing road…

I’d like to thank Finders Keepers for hosting me today! I love visiting blogs and chatting with folks about my books and the writing process. Most generally, the writing road is a relatively smooth one for me. I don’t usually struggle with writer’s block too often. If anything, my problem is having so many ideas vying to be written at once. It’s like trying to separate the wheat from the chafe at times.

“Yes muse, this idea about a women’s pro hockey team is boffo! The one about the ninja chimpanzees who fight zombies while riding Harley’s may not be exactly what we’re hoping to write, but good effort!”

You always have to speak to your muse politely or they get tiffy and no author wants a tiffy muse.

Occasionally I’ll get slapped with a round of doubt and start comparing myself to other author’s. When I begin to do this, I try to stop myself as quickly as I can. I cannot be J.K. Rowling no matter how much I wish I were. I can only be V.L. Locey, the erotic hockey romance author. If I am writing the best hockey romances that I can, then I need to stop making comparisons. Generally the round of doubt will only last a short while, I’m a pretty upbeat person overall. Hearing from a reader that enjoyed your book is the best way to help pave over the potholes in the writing road!

What do you do to fight off a case of the self-doubts? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments!

Skate hard and love deeply,

V.L. Locey

Clean Sweep - New CoverFiery, flame-haired Jane Bratkowski is catapulted from a small college town to Philadelphia to become head coach of a new women’s hockey team, The Venom. It’s a life-changing opportunity, a dream come true until – in a cruel twist of fate that could turn into a nightmare – she comes face to face with her ex-husband Tore Ahlberg, the Wildcats’ head of European Scouting.

Suddenly, Jane’s faced with more challenges than she bargained for: Will she let him distract her — and derail her big chance to coach pro hockey? Can she build a team of relatively inexperienced, irrepressible young women into champions? Can she and Tore triumph over the gut-wrenching tragedy that ripped them apart — or will the shocking truth of their passionate past threaten to destroy them once again?

EXCERPT

It was on the tip of my tongue to ask him how, or why, he remembered so much from our years of wedded bliss. Instead, I marched into the bathroom, Pomeranians in hand, then shut the door on him, his tie, and those damned recollections of a time best left in the past.

I washed my face then set to work on detangling. I accomplished this with snarling expletives aimed at long dead ancestors. The boys were restless. I laid down my hairbrush then snuck over to the door. I couldn`t hear my ex on the other side. I cracked the door just enough to peer through. Tore was standing at the sliding glass door. He still cut a fine figure from the back even though he was now in his early fifties. Wide shoulders, lean waist, long legs. The sun made his straw-colored blonde hair look like spun gold. It was time to stop, Jane. I had thought to ask him to walk the dogs but after that Rumpelstiltskin moment, perhaps a brisk walk would do me good. I closed the door quietly. Ten minutes later I stepped out, face freshly scrubbed, hair beaten into submission, and dogs in dire need.

“I have to get dressed,” I told Tore when he turned from the city to look at me.

“You want me to leave?” I nodded. “We were married, Jane. Unless you have done some alterations, there is nothing I have not seen before.”

I felt a slight flush rushing up behind the freckles on my cheeks. “There have been no alterations. Go wait on the patio. I mean it, Tore. Don`t give me that stupid look. Go.”

“Stupid look? I have a stupid look?” he asked, a definite twinkle in his eye. A sharp comment was resting on my tongue. I swallowed it back to be nice. It was only seven am. Even ex-husbands deserve a small kindness from time to time.

Fall Into Romance bloghop

Ahhhh…. Fall is the best time of year, especially in Ky

fall KY/home
fall KY/home

My favorite Fall Activity has to be taking pictures of all the changing colors, the leaves falling to the ground in reds, yellows, and browns… and so many other colors. It is also the only time of year that I feel comfortable walking through the trees. The cool crisp air gets along with my MS, and I get to enjoy the outdoors. I love the way the world smells and feels.

I also love to paint and write in the fall, not that I don’t normally love these activities, but fall seems to recharge my battery. It seems right that my first book was released this fall. Shocking Finds is a paranormal/fantasy romance at its best… Fae assassins, betrayal, and undeniable lust…

Oct 25 writing prompt… TOLD

Oh Boy… Shocking Finds is almost here… just hours away… to fill that time I am working on a free story and putting together this writing prompt for you… just like yesterday, I will write up a few sentences to go with the pictures… feel free to use for your own inspiration and grow it into your own story… muhahahaha… I’m sure all hallow’s eve would love to have your short…

“You were told! You were warned.”

James froze in place. His hand shook as he slowly reached for the gun at his side. He turned slowly, trying to hide the moments of his hand. “Don’t want no trouble, friend.”

That weird sign about dead bodies already had his nerves on edge. Like he needed to be told not to touch dead bodies, but why would this field be full of corpses.

Finally facing back the way he had entered the large field of cheat grass and boulders, James whipped out his gun and started firing at the body crawling out of the ground.

She had been told about the orphans and their antics. Jessica knew that the girls would try to freak her out, but this was insane. There was no way that the slight females should be able to hang halfway up the walls with no real handholds. That was bad enough, but when they all started humming the same off key turn with perfect synchronicity, Jessica decided to slowly back out of the room. She needed to get out of this job as soon as possible.

d7f03d253691e07b78a7c791bc7985e9

The small skeletal creature appeared dead; his humanoid body placed beneath the words that told all that he didn’t deserve his treatment. His body was contorted in the throws of death, but Jim wasn’t stupid. The last guy to rush into that room was lying with glazed eyes beside the body of the sharp fingered corpse. Fingers that had sliced through the throat to the man beside him.

Nick could feel his body beginning to shake. The world was beginning to darken. Wrapping his arms around his torso, Nick did his best to hold his body together, to keep from flying apart. He couldn’t afford to disintegrate in the middle of town square. It was night and no one appeared to be around but how could he be sure?

“No, no, no…”

Beyond his control, his body burst into an invisible cloud of atoms.

Writing Prompt, Oct 24… HORROR

Halloween is right around the corner, so I thought the next few prompts should be Spook inspired. Muhahahaha… A few hours until Shocking Finds comes out, and a writing prompt about HORROR to keep your blood pumping while you wait.

20151007 Shocking Finds cover

Be sure to get your copy of this Electric-fryingly (:P) Paranormal Romance… and add to the Season with a story of your own… peruse this writing prompt and previous prompts, find you inspiration…

*Pinterest is full of stuff like this

For the rest of pictures, I think I will do something a little different from my previous prompts… for each picture I will write out a few sentence of my own… feel free to use them as a base to start your own story… 😛

  1. The suffocating feeling only grew as Jamie forced her way through the trees. She could feel the branches reaching out to stop her in her tracks, scratching along her exposed flesh, grabbing at her unbound hair.
  2. The bushes filled every available escape from the dark. A forest should be full of cotton tailed rabbits and white tailed deer, not demonic bushes swaying and groaning in the wind. “Eep.” Lacey squeaked and whirled around at the feel of grasping hands. Throwing her hand over her mouth, she began to shake as she stood transfixed, staring at the innocent looking bush.

691676dc09b89ae7171edff60a912f0a

The darkness in her eyes froze Sam in his place. It moved like a rippling lake at midnight, attacking his mind, calling to him. Sam moved across the room, unable to stop. The screams in his mind intensified but never made it from his lips.

8db3815245a9cd43dd6d9e0787e70af5

Shaking his hands out, Jake did his best not to scream. He didn’t know what the hell was going on but tingling, glowing hands couldn’t be healthy. As the tingling began to itch and burn, Jake forgot about manly silence. “What the hell?” He needed a bucket of water, a block of ice … something to keep his extremities from bursting into flames.

bdb484949b64fad81d197741a2e6a3a7

Every slice of his scalpel reveled more and more blood. He needed more towels if he wanted to find what made her tick. At least the screaming had stopped. As much as he enjoyed the sound of a woman’s voice in distress, he needed to concentrate. He needed to find the heart before it was too late. If he couldn’t feel it’s last few beats, then all his hard work would be for nothing. Ruined because this bitch decided to bleed heavier than the others.

Muhahahahaha… Okay, now it’s your turn to let the story flow. 😛 Happy Hallow’s Eve… okay, I’m a bit early… but a writer needs to be prepared… Happy Wordage, Tracey

Oct 23 writing prompt… SIGN

For the Oct 23 writing prompt I am going with the word SIGN…

13c9b73fce51c9871369f04b2fdd054f

Your character could follow the signs. The easiest way to think of this would be in the real world… we get directions to our chosen destination by following signs. A map may give you an overview of where you want to go, but signs that change mile by mile help to pinpoint where you are going. You could also think of this in a paranormal way. If one part of the room is hotter or colder than the rest, your character could follow the supernatural signs…

f560d9bcdf5e4118f552080fa6f8f7cee987aa3a7e217639333ef89c7065beac

ASL… American Sign Language is a form of communication for those with hearing problems… Multiple countries have their own form of sign language… all over the world you can find people that speak with their hands… I really like that last sign, with the hands spelling out ‘live, love, laugh…’

39147ee388347a79286219a72715abff949757aa4203f6519ba5b9e3e243f7a9188cf69b47a7bd0b6b87a6958b1e7982

Street signs are used to help drivers… I mean, no one wants to go into a sharp curve at sixty miles an hour… okay, there are some dare devils that find that thrilling, but if your character usually drives normally it would be shocking to have then in a car chase with a punch of signs missing… like a missing ‘one way’ sign could cause all kinds of trouble… and it happens all the time around here… especially around Halloween… teens have a tendency to claim street signs for their bedrooms…

bd7effcb0273e5421736fb8cfb990698

Warning signs could play into your story, especially if you have a character searching for something… they are bound to ignore a warning sign if they believe they are on the right track… muhahahaha… But warning signs could also be more mental/physical… a clenched fist is a warning sign that your character is pissed… either trying to hold back their anger or preparing to throw a punch…

bfb8e062797beded10d5ef69e1c6a1efdd1b3bf99c11dfbfb3099af1e19e6fa7b7420fdb1ef31758907748ae96d092b5

Joke signs are basically decorations… or sarcastic warnings (like a sign that shows a man being eaten by a shark with the words underneath ‘don’t feed the fishes’…

d9eb0ce8725ab55e6fbb933e4069538e

Signed papers… this is where you put your signature on something… it could be a document for the ups guy, so that you can get the package he has brought you… it can be a memento for someone’s birthday or wedding… or even a autographed picture from a celebrity (author, movie star, singer…etc)

6adc09e55da385269223702a603ab78ab90e39154c6c1c08f2c4af268ea17e7ce605812ff8811a80fff16d9684b9c251

And here is my last sign…I should print off this sign for Nov, so that I get my 50K words in… lol

Happy Wordage everyone…. Tracey

Oct 22 writing prompt… BAR

dd2252166e6981d31e955f83f2592b73

Okay… word warriors… what can you have your characters do with the word BAR… are they going out dancing at a bar, are they fixing a nightcap at their in home mini-bar, or relaxing after a hard day on the road with a drink from the hotel mini-bar…

991eeaab1cbf84fd3e1e3c993d65e41382c7e54d34efd443ec854eae9db1a60efb31541b5251bc5968d51680fbf7b82e

Or if your character is in jail, it would be ‘behind bars’

47021721d6930c7067d3f94187917e30

you could think of bars in the terms of gymnastics… like the uneven bars, which is two bars… or the single bar, which is supposed to be harder than the uneven bars…

69d1d1ec8f1d3ea72145df14ce37d153e079e818890bbc32ed2cdaf557729103

In other sports, there is the polevolting bar… you run with a pole and then try to sling your body into the air and over the polevolting bar…

6860612aef46cc393b190d6c71c08db6ba7cf4883c4766c1c912f28608869a5d

or ‘raising the bar’ which is a term used in business… usually the boss wants to see who is the best, and will raise the bar by throwing out a particularly hard task/case/assignment…

d13d11779fcd5249d6402e8383f11adf

an easy one to work into your story would be ‘breakfast bar’ because hey, your character have to eat sometime… and it is easy to grab a breakfast bar

c52c60812a2b1640004eae7a9864e9d53848cab21f46d81f4bab1c1a89b3a2a7

and lastly, a type of exercise… and also a different type of raising the bar… lifting weights deals with a lot of different types of bars, usually with weights attached to either end…

7574bf842034a07c82e9c7fde6152715

alright, no for forth and write greatness… happy wordage, tracey

Oct 21 writing prompt… MAZE

7347198e6b7163db2e586fe3009468b3

The Oct 21 writing prompt is MAZE… a maze is basically something that you get lost in, with no idea which way to go…

b8fa7480b62ed4af7af6a6023787f751

anyone that watched the first Maze Runner, will be able to pull up a visual of a maze in which your characters can get lost in, fight monsters in, and run around looking for the exit… but a maze can be in a house, out in a hedge garden, or any structure really…

b9c4ca1b13c44f80fe94e28c411aabfd60b8f65e8a5306e734ccb00b3e343b7ed5bb958c95e8e8c05fe6b9f42039054d

or maybe your character is dealing with a mind maze, something that he/she needs to think their way through… their thoughts are going in circles without a clear end in sight…

576c4546e7227d64f463688e52d65c16

SONY DSC
SONY DSC

and if you spell the word a little differently … MAIZE … you get the meaning ‘corn’… sounds the same, but different meanings…

38bf7eb7acb7b74f5dbada0b08267fd825b5cb37458894166286e758ffa78955

or, hey, you could put the words together… a Maize Maze… which is great for Halloween and haunted mazes… oooo, scary

79980c3b8fd2ba4d89c7a0728d111a66

happy wordage, Tracey… and it looks like we are all caught up… maybe I will do the 22nd prompt now so I don’t fall behind again… write something great word warriors…

Oct 20 writing prompt… BOOK

hmmm… whatever could we use the word book for? I mean, it’s just something that you read, right? Your character could be a voracious reader, always with his/her nose in a BOOK… Hey, they could even be reading my book, Shocking Finds…

20151007 Shocking Finds cover

or one of my favorite writers, your bound to have one or two favorites yourself… but mine would be Karen Chance, Shelly Laurenston, etc…

3fa69da3a4d6508aeb25194504ee38de8067677f143f1924760857fbb194b729

Or maybe your character is using a book to plan out his/her perfect crime… muhaahhaha… Maybe something from a horror or a mystery…

df2c2689c594f992493d1967c6552c4c22369d4756b0f5fe835df608a48f8314

or maybe your character is having a breakdown, thinks he/she needs to fight for their life… they could picture the world around them coming to life, mirroring the latest Stephen King novel that they read… or some other horror novel great…

85b70c333c379809c15b3f629b7e7609

then again, maybe you want to focus your story around the word BOOK without dealing with a novel of any kind. Maybe your character is booking a flight, or a cruise… maybe they are booking reservations at the latest hotspot for dinner… you can book all manner of things for vacation or entertainment… you can even book a nail appointment…

e1c4ef856ac9decdf21eebe298a40f6e93dd9812627be6db4f21d5cc5f79ecf87e386dc16c2d13ddeeb56bb87dd5c4ca4ae1db5160b340026e11546ef2f5373faef9ac28ea773fbd88cc84b7924bc31c

Oct 17 writing prompt… Nine different WAYS

I thought that for Oct 17th’s prompt, we could take the word WAY and approach it nine different ways… use the word WAY and peruse the pictures to come up with a story idea… writing prompts are great fillers for when you get stuck during next months NaNoWriMo… okay, now for Nine

In the family WAY… Adding a baby to the picture can throw a whole new spin on your characters way of life, their personality, and their willingness to be ruthless… some may freak out, unready for the responsibility… or maybe overwhelming fear of one small being depending on them…

df5e01810a961923763a665436762d1fa71827243ef503c8db1b8143f8568df680b13405c1ed0be0b08751edd4ddb9062c0d815f7700fef53779920952dd9b42

My WAY or the highway… This is a stubborn personality type that your other characters may want to punch in the face… but what if your character is an alpha male, and in a situation that needs him/her to be in charge… my way or the highway might come into play… eventually you could allow him/her a chance to grow a little, by allowing someone else to make the decisions

113a54224281f74a87c29d59487e0124aaeda6a5c3530085010b5086cabb5162

Going the WAY of the dodo. This is a phrase that has to do with extinction. The dodo was discovered and then quickly hunted into extinction rather quickly, because of their passive nature. If people, businesses, technology is unwilling or unable to change with the tide, to grow into more to stay ahead of the race, then they too will become extinct… For us writers, Barns and Noble is an excellent example… they weren’t quick or efficient enough to compete with Kindle and now we see less and less actual physical locations in which to purchase books… people still love a good paperback, but the cheaper prices and the ease of delivery makes E-books attractive.

b2da3178e4c772ffc791c337285288345f087f60f4a68c95b749d41ad53beae7

Which WAY/ freeway. Your character could be on a trip. I like to go on vacation and try to stop along the way at random places that catch my fancy. I call it going on walk about… Which way should your character go?? Have then set out for one destination, but be sidetracked by something… A roadside sign that shows Amish country fudge or construction… A flat tire in the middle of nowhere… Hunger or restroom needs… Once they stop, so many different things could try to keep them from getting on their way, endanger their lives, or even make them stay and never want to leave.

e735b8168ed120cbd4a076df9d377c73f55dab651ba70c0c12a9c5c51c0b47bf

That WAY lies destruction. Your character keeps doing something that leads them closer and closer to a dead end, a fight, further away from their goal.

9ebd97f43ac1b6232cfaffe5dfaa89f12bfe61476e36da1cb8f5628bb210bc36

In the WAY of progress. Is your character a nature lover, afraid that a corporation will clear out a forest of trees so that they can build a resort… or a logger… or a family of Brownies (or other Fae) living in the trees, needing to learn to cohabitate with humans. Stories revolving around trees are the ones that pop into my mind, but standing in the way of progress could be so many different things… a group of terrorists that refuse to grow, to change, and will fight to stick to the old ways… even trying to force their ways on the progressive cultures… technologies, businesses, farmers, book stores, cultures… anything or anyone that stands in the way of progress will be fighting to stick to the old ways…

fb9fa1d5ab70f5b072d1310265e11b92ffae078673e37ee411c5ed9b2400e05f2469c71daf5f91a26e9b7438b623b83a

WAYlay… hmmm what does the word waylay mean and how can we use it in a story… this is when you take by surprise, attack from the shadows, strike when others have their guard down. The trickster Fae have a tendency to draw travelers from the beaten path, get them lost, and then all manner of bad things can happen… Or a pitcher know for their fast balls can surprise the batter with a curve ball… or maybe your character is a hunter, lying in wait for a deer…

c4f98b1b5512fa9f64b8cf25ea3318efd1469b07c0cedf73562a59787acb8a74fcb1fc5441342bbfd7b67bd1744ded56

Give-a-WAY. This one is very self explanatory. It is when you give things away, toys to children, money as surprise gifts, even the suckers at the bank when you go in to cash a check…

f347d027d4232005985eec3cfc125092ed304f1f5275b37d43caa76a480cf015a7cd85506e7133a874235a96545df3277eba9c1e24b4a96ff6eb8e8eb49be985

Layaway. This is when you lay claim to something, and then have time to pay it off… Your character can work in layaway, and deal with the insanity of holiday gift layaways… or maybe a woman that has a layaway for her child goes to cancel it because she knows she wont be able to come up with the funds, and she finds that someone has paid for the purchases… turns out a man that secretly loves her knew of her troubles and secretly paid for her stuff…

168ba1649ef48b1732a52a65421f1e27

That concluded our nine different WAYS. But I just had to add this last piece… it has the word layaway in it, but for the most part it is just a cute little story… Happy wordage, Tracey

oct 13 writing prompt… PUGNACIOUS

Pugnacious: Adjective…

eager or quick to argue, quarrel, or fight:

“the increasingly pugnacious demeanor of politicians”

IMG_0137

lol… Okay… so this word doesn’t really have anything to do with pugs, but I do think of them when I say it… I mean, I guess pugnacious could describe their disdain for rules… if I tell Moe-moe to go outside, he will just lie there staring at me… or my favorite… he will come within a foot of my outstretched arm and then sit down… clearly say ‘nope, this is are far as I go, woman’… grrr… they are rotten by they make me smile… okay, back to our word of the day…

synonyms: combative · aggressive · antagonistic · belligerent · bellicose ·

obviously politicians best fit this definition… but what if you character doesn’t have anything to do with politics… can the word pugnacious still inspire you to come up with a few chapters??? that is the wonderful thing about the English language… most word come with some many different uses and points of view… frankly, when I think of the pugnacious, I think ‘doggedly’… like a dog with a bone, the character just won’t let it go… it could be an argument, a hunt for the villain, or a mission to acquire love… Alpha males always have some form of a pugnacious attitude… they fight for what they want…
61d71216058c3e5e4acdaf4546d52cfc3d58e6d0c58b801f3553ec9ba65abb92
animals are the picture of warlike/pugnacious… always defining strength with the one that comes out on top during a fight… same goes for humans… whether physical, mental, or magical, someone has to be the force that everyone looks to for answers … what basic instinct shine through in your character… no matter you work with contemporary or paranormal or history or etc… we all need that character with the take charge attitude… a book full of followers would lead no where….
163a3a7bd82b53d47271dbc435793d1b
think of your character during a sporting event… anyone that has watched or participated in a sport knows that competitive, warlike, quarrelsome… basically all the synonyms for pugnacious hold true… you zone out, forget the crowd, and focus on getting the ball, making the touchdown, gain home base… sporting events can be very intense…
846a7b26911e91ebf2a5867e993aa38a
and lastly, I just loved this pinterest picture… this little girl is ready to take on the world… ready to debate and get her way, make you see that she is right, and fight for her place at the top of the pack… definitely the best pugnacious picture out there… 😛 now go forth and write… happy wordage everyone, Tracey

Oct 12 writing prompt… WIRE

063711b965041b4f70bcd8a3b8f47313

Okay… the writing prompt for oct 12 is wire… I chose to think of it as ‘down to the wire’ which is usually meant as ‘last minute’… a last minute decision in a race, or finishing a project last minute… your character could be in a race of some kind, or rushing to do a job before the bad guys kill their loved ones… and just makes it under the wire…

c0249d7a4f96ae5999dded1e4d6456d5

or your character could be doing some circus act, walking a tight rope aka a wire, or doing some other death defying stunt… which brings me to ‘wired’ or on drugs… because the guy in the above picture has to be hopped up on something …

d6a2ec121c41d10cf62bbcd925ecb7b0

But it doesn’t have to be some hardcore drug in order for your character to be wired… they could be overdoing the caffeine… or, you know, a cat dipping into the catnip…

cd323a9abd7fa3a2c661955a6c12183b

Or you could be writing some police story where you need a wire tap… aka, tapping someone’s phone… who knows what your character may hear…

f56b6b4c16dd3b31fac85659d177f411780c88d89306d37cbf59a4078562e8e4807aa137cbb9ca4d623c71936d6b83c6

And lastly… arts and crafts for you character… if they have some left over chicken wire from that fence/chicken coop they needed to put up, they can make a decorative frame to string up pictures and other crafts… or use fishing wire to bead together a necklace or bracelet… or just go fishing… or string up some wire to hang photos while they dry when the character is developing his own… some many WIRE activities to pic from… have some fun and write some words…

happy wordage, Tracey

Oct 9 writing Prompt… TRANSFER

The property in the goods is said, to be transferred from the seller to the buyer

5dad326ce97e3c30329bbbfdc4989f87

For Oct 9 the writing prompt word is TRANSFER. Basically moving something (a good, a service, a person, an occupation, anything really) from one place to another. Food can be transferred to the buyer… all they have to do is fork over some money. But what happens when you want to sell your food/product on the other side of the country/the other side of the world? You pack up your product/food into a truck or a plane, a boat or a train and then TRANSFER your product/food to a different location. There are a lot of people your character could encounter, if they are the ones moving the goods from one place to another. Or maybe your character needs someone to move something for them. Call a U-Haul service to transfer/move their belongings to a new location when they decide to change houses.

d31e6a79eaaf3bde4297ad35b16e330e7468c40ff30f70da3489f03124c3816b

Or you could think of the transfer of a fake tattoo onto your skin. Your character could need to disguise him-/herself or go undercover. Tattoo be very helpful.

fc50b3e930ae2a35b5939131100a2e7fb68e687cb1376f26d5810a7441de2309a3468055bedeea06c6f03e14b1e30894a73a491fb62a44fe9aed14c80073148157eebc24f9734a84dc9f7a1145fa6a64

There are all kinds of art projects that require some form of transfer. You transfer paint to a canvas, rocks to a decorative wall or rock garden, beads onto a string. But my favorite transfer is of pictures onto an object. You can put them on stone, wood, t-shirts. You can make lasting mementos, clothing, furniture… the possibilities are endless.

54b328f2b98f4f9166f7c53a85ca8fae2b6add41bd025f8f3db66b67c68fb1d3

Or maybe your character is more into music than visual arts. Downloading music … your character can transfer music from the internet to a storage device. Who knows, your character could fall in love with a musician. Or maybe they are the musician, and someone is illegally downloading his/her music.

944d7957ea9d354a184b5a6712c4038817febea1a0f6786131b2e874c5093850

oooo… or your character could be a super alpha male, with a job in the police or military. Dang… I could really keep adding different transfer situations to this post all day. Cowboys in the old west transferring livestock across the country, a job transfer that forces your hero to move across the country, across the world. Even magical characters have transfers… they have the normal everyday transfers just like humans and Norms, but think of the spells and magical tattoos, or the spell ingredients transferred to a potion mixture. Or a transport or a portal… a way to move physical matter from one place to another. muhahahaha…

47021721d6930c7067d3f94187917e30 d38a9a0cdee7f7a1072e9c61abfc9563

In a more mundane setting, the transfer of psychical matter could be the transfer of a prisoner or a slave. Is your character and undercover agent in prison being moved to a new jail in order to get close to his target, or is he the villain being transfer… he could break out and cause all kinds of havoc. And the idea of slave auctions will always be a part of history and everyday horror storie

Handsome executive working on Laptop.

I think I will use this prompt to do a little bit more on my short story. A kind of wrap up that will move Sam (transfer her) to Ohio so she can have full length novels with Nick. 😛 I like it. Now make up your own story and feel free to post a link in the comment section… I would love to see what everyone comes up with. Happy wordage, Tracey

Woo who… all about me!

Check out my debut novel: Shocking Finds on Amazon

Georgie nominated me for this award. Thanks girl, you rock. The rules for the award are as follows:

  • Thank the nominator
  • Display the award
  • Answer the questions
  • Nominate five more bloggers with the same questions or different ones.
  • Notify your nominees.

Q and A:

Why did you start a blog?

Because every author needs a platform these days. I wanted to share my my new and exciting adventure to be published with as many people as possible.

Favorite place to read?

I have to comfortable above all else. Usually that means my lazy boy recliner.

Favorite book of all time?

My favorite  book is always changing. Lately it has been the last book in Karen Chance’s Cassie Player series, as I wait for her next release.

Classics or moderns?

I have to say modern because the only classic I love/read is Pride and Prejudice.

Favorite book series?

There are a lot of favorites. Merry Gentry series by LK Hamilton, Midnight’s Daughter & Cassie Palmer series both by Karen Chance, and anything by Shelly Laurentian/G.A. Aiken are just a few.

If you could be a fictional character, who would you be and why?

I would be one of Lynsay Sands’s vampires so that I could heal anything and have centuries to experience all the wonders the world has to offer.

Book or eBook?

Both. I love the feel and look of a book, but enjoy the ease of reading on my kindle. I will purchase hardback copies of my favorites.

Favorite time of day?

Definitely evening. I am soooo not a morning person.

A film that completely ruined your expectations because the book was amazing?

Not sure how to answer this one. I know that there have been a lot of movies that fell flat after the enjoyment of the book version. While I enjoyed the Twilight movies, they came off with a more comic book feel after the book’s ability to pull you into Stephanie Meyer’s world.

Apart from reading, what do you enjoy doing most?

Art. Art of any kind …

I am feeling the excitement and pressure from waiting and wondering. Will Shocking Finds be able to reach a large number of people? Will those that read through my baby find the world I created to be an enjoyment? Will they give the same kind of appreciative reviews as those that have already had a chance to experience the world of Marin and Kyland? So far the reception has been overwhelmingly positive … enough to make me blush. Whenever I feel my friend ‘Doubt’ coming near, there are a few comments that I pull out for strength. 😛

I have been working to get all my ducks in a row, when I’m not finishing a few art projects for my Cousin Erin’s wedding. And to add even more to this month of fun, I drove my mother down to spend time on the beach and with out cousin Jesse … Lot’s of opportunities for pictures and books.

IMG_1054 (1)

This is what I would call my ‘why the heck not’ purchases. 😛 All things that I could use, but mostly I just really wanted them. From the crazy neighbors to the horror stories, from the animal info to the survival guide … all important. I may not need them at this exact moment, but you never know. Writing a book that is interesting means you need facts and knowledge. Just because I write paranormal/fantasy romance, that doesn’t get me off the fact finding hook. A lot of my world revolves around the imagined, but there are always a few reality based facts involved.

IMG_1052IMG_1053

I managed to find a few books on crystals. For the first book it was enough to know that Marin had a crystal that everyone went around calling a maturation crystal, or just a crystal for her Transitions Birthday. I used the her birthday gift to herself in a few chapters at the beginning and then again at the end, but I didn’t go into depth (thinking that it would be an object that was rarely seen) HA. Now I need to know more about her crystal, so that Marin can eventually find out more. See … research.

As for the Indian/First People books … hey … those are my people. But other than the fact that my grandfather looked like he knew his way around a reservation, my knowledge of the culture is sorely lacking. And then I found out that the Fae actually came over to Earth-side and mated with the First People. Jeeze… no one tells me anything… but the voices in my head suddenly demanded that this is how it all went wrong for our Fae half-breeds here Earth-side. While I was waiting for the latest book cover proof, I had decided to edit some on one of my short stories. I was going along, and everything was fine, then suddenly Joffrey decides to drop this little bomb shell in my lap. He is just lucky that I like the idea … I have killed off characters for less … muhahahaha… Anywho … It looks like Joffrey’s short will end up being a novella, but I haven’t decided if it should be shared before or after the second full length novel… Hopefully, after Shocking Finds is out and I finish the edit for the second novel, one of the characters will let me know…

So that is what I did for beach fun, book stores and edits. OOO, and I think we have the book cover almost finalized. I can’t wait to share. Otherwise I tried to take as many pictures as I could, when my head and the heat cooperated.

101_0184101_0220101_0210

I saw these at the beach front wildlife preserve down from Garden City. A few overcast evenings made going on a short walk-about possible. But after walking around the and finding three, just three, lovely pics, I decided that I would have been better off checking out the Botanical Gardens across the street. Other than these and some pics of extremely white sand, I saw lots and lots of crabs. There were enough of the little devils to change the name to the ‘Wild Crab Bonanza’

101_0206101_0198

I took a few more, but some of them came out a little blurry. Lots of crab movement, and thicker numbers of the ones that were about the size of nickels, dimes, and quarters. Ever seen Lands End with Johnny Depp… sooo, yeah … Lots.

Here are some beach and wave pics to round out this post, and I hope to come back with more Shocking Finds updates soon… Happy Wordage, Tracey

Radio or Podcast Interviews.. Gold dust for an author – Get prepared.

food for thought… we all hope to reach as many readers as possible… this is just part of that dream… and knowing beforehand what to say is an excellent idea… no one want to get an all important call from a radio or podcast, only to get on there and have that dream/nightmare… you know the one… you show up to class without your homework, or your clothes… and still the teacher wants an answer to a five part mathematical questions – all while your peers fall out of their seats laughing… sooo , my writer friends, lets all take a moment and dream big… and while we are at it, lets read through this post and prepare for that big call… happy wordage

A short piece of pain…

Okay… So this isn’t a piece I am working on, though I see it’s potential for a future Contemporary Romance… Maybe once I get all the other rough drafts and story ideas finished, I will have time to work this one out the rest of the way… for now, enjoy my heart breaking piece of woe…
This idea came to me when I saw,

————-
Jason watched as Neil beat his fists into the ground. Bracken, rocks, hard frozen forest floor … Nothing could stop him from expressing his rage, and bloodying his hands in the process.
How had a brother’s bonding, hunting trip gone so terribly wrong?
Eliza … that’s how.
Jason left Neil to his pain, and turned to focus on the couple using a lake side blanket to express their passion. Hunching his shoulders, Jason held his torso tightly, fighting the need to fall to his knees and join his twin. The had both love Eliza from the moment she was transplanted to their small Kentucky town. Her ripe curves were no more than straight lines back then, but still she had an allure that drew all the guys in.
Seeing her spread out for another man’s touch broke Jason heart. He would always love her, but he could let her go.
Turning, he watched as Neil pushed to his feet, and pulled his shotgun to his shoulder. Moving closer, Jason hissed, “What the hell, man?”
Neil’s only reply was to shake his head, and neck stiff with tension, released the safety, preparing to shoot.
The horror of never seeing Eliza’s deep chocolate eyes sparkle with her laughter again, forced Jason’s hand. Before he could think it through, he had tackled Neil to the ground. Taking away Neil’s gun, his only thought. As the shot rang out into the quite forest air, Jason stiffened in surprise, shock, and … pain.
————–
Jason vibrated, wanting to tear his brother’s head off. He wanted to put a bullet between that blonde surfer wanna-be. He didn’t know the guy, didn’t want to know him, but he definitely wanted to kill him.
Shoving at Jason’s chest, he raged, “Get the hell off me.” The element of surprise was gone, and if he didn’t hurry his target would disappear as well.
Jason’s heavier weight had his body imprinting the forest floor. Neil gave up trying to force his twin to move, instead moving his legs around so he could inspire Jason to move himself. When his knee came up to connect with Jason’s tender bits, Neil expected to hear him yell out in suffering. But nothing.
Something was wrong.
“Oh my God …” That soft lilting voice drew Neil’s gaze. There she was, the woman of his dreams. He would turn eighteen in three weeks. He would be a man. A man that could move out of the hell he called home, could give a woman his whole heart, all the attention and love she needed. He would be free, and as soon as he could run off surfer dude, he could place his claim on the finest woman to come out of Jefferson High.
His cheeks flaming, he again tried to rouse Jason. “Come on man. I need to get up.”
Still nothing.
Eliza came to his side, the blanket from her afternoon of fun wrapped securely around her mouthwatering frame. One day he would have the right to touch her, to merge his body with hers. One day.
He was about to slap some sense into his twin when he realized that his hand was covered in blood. Staring at the damning red, Neil barely heard Eliza’s mournful cry. The longer he stared at the dripping liquid, the more he wanted to join her cry. What had he done? There were other women. More important needs. He didn’t care about his father’s belt, or his mother’s dazed stare. He had a twin, someone that knew him and accepted him… faults and all. He had ..
Voice breaking, he pleaded, he prayed, “Jase. Come on. You’re all right.”
But nothing was alright. Nothing would ever be alright again.

Sooo … the excitement continues. This is all so new and overwhelming at times, but then I take a deep breath and get my fears under control. My wonderful publisher, Mary Smith at http://gonewritingpublishing.blogspot.com/, has been working over time to get my book, and me, ready for release. Her editor is hard at work checking all my dotted i’s and crossed t’s, her graphic artist is pulling together the perfect image to represent the feel of the world I created.

I’m not sure what exactly happens during a blog tour, and sadly didn’t have time to gone into an in depth Q&A with…
