R&R Karen Chance

Rants and Raves

Pritkin… soooo dreamy… I waited with barely contained impatience for Reap the Wind to be released… I reread the excerpt chapters, and stalked the internet for any tidbits that Karen Chance would drop…

It was torture… lol… This book in the Cassie Palmer series ended up being too long (according to Chance) and that meant that she had to either edit out or find a break in the story that allowed her to turn one book into two… She decided to go with the two book option, but that meant that we were forced to wait for her to find that break, and then go back into editing mode…

Personally, I am glad that she went with the two book option… there is so much information and potential for future twists and turns packed into Reap the Wind… information that could have been benched and then forgotten… At least if I was in her shoes… I know that when I make chances, I always save the scenes that I cut out, but as I move forward my brain comes up with all these new ways to progress the story… it is really hard for me to find a way to fit those scenes that I loved back into the world I have created…

This isn’t exactly a bad thing, but there are possibilities in Reap the Wind that I, for one, would hate to see lost to the side lines… information about Pritkin, and how he could evolve… not just as Cassie’s friend, but also as a character… I also enjoyed seeing Cassie dropping into scenes already played out in the Dorina Basarab series… even though Cassie still doesn’t know about Dory, I can see the potential for future interaction between the two characters… and lets not forget Mircea…

Mircea’s character could go in so many ways… Chance could build a whole new series with him, she could continue as is and possible have a Pritkin vs Mircea triangle with Cassie being pulled between the two, she could go into a poly relationship type storyline… Hey… I am up for anything, especially if Pritkin gets lots of scene time… lol… did I mention that I love that character… And although Reap the Wind didn’t tie up the issues we have been waiting for answers to, it did wet my appetite for the next novel… Ride the Storm…. so now the wait continues… grrr… man do I hate waiting… how am I supposed to procrastinate my own editing if my favorite authors don’t publish stories faster… hehehe…

okay… enough of that for now… until next month, happy wordage everyone… hopefully I will be ranting and raving about the upcoming Sherlock movie next month… I spotting the poster for the upcoming release… two days only…

Let’s see what Mary has for us today… hmm… what is my all time favorite book??? I love Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but I also love to reread all of the Karen Chance books and the Patricia Briggs books… I don’t know that I can pick just one… I start from the beginning of Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken (same person-different series)’s books over and over… I just love the humor and romance…

If I have to pick just one it had to be one of the books form Patricia Briggs Alpha and Omega series… Let’s go with Dead Heat

But dang it… i love her Mercy Thompson Series as well….. okay… let’s just go with this months favorite author, because my fav changes like a pregnant person’s cravings… and I can’t just mention my Alpha and Omega fav… it would be soooo unfair… I’m already leaving off a half dozen authors, and dozens of favorite books… and though Patricia Briggs keeps her lovin’ scenes behind closed doors, my smut obsessed mind just loves her… 😛 and here is my Mercy Thompson Pick… Night Broken

Oct 20 writing prompt… BOOK

hmmm… whatever could we use the word book for? I mean, it’s just something that you read, right? Your character could be a voracious reader, always with his/her nose in a BOOK… Hey, they could even be reading my book, Shocking Finds…

20151007 Shocking Finds cover

or one of my favorite writers, your bound to have one or two favorites yourself… but mine would be Karen Chance, Shelly Laurenston, etc…

3fa69da3a4d6508aeb25194504ee38de8067677f143f1924760857fbb194b729

Or maybe your character is using a book to plan out his/her perfect crime… muhaahhaha… Maybe something from a horror or a mystery…

df2c2689c594f992493d1967c6552c4c22369d4756b0f5fe835df608a48f8314

or maybe your character is having a breakdown, thinks he/she needs to fight for their life… they could picture the world around them coming to life, mirroring the latest Stephen King novel that they read… or some other horror novel great…

then again, maybe you want to focus your story around the word BOOK without dealing with a novel of any kind. Maybe your character is booking a flight, or a cruise… maybe they are booking reservations at the latest hotspot for dinner… you can book all manner of things for vacation or entertainment… you can even book a nail appointment…

The recent poll for our favorite authors turned out to be a lot of fun for me. Like one person commented, it was a great way to find new authors to add to my TBR list. Though one person commented that she preferred to go into a book blind, no outside commentary.

You never know what you are going to get when you open a book. No matter how many reviews you read, your opinion may differ from the likes and dislikes of others. I have found that even the authors that I have loved for years can come up with something that either wows me beyond belief, or makes me check the front cover … just to make sure I really am reading one of their books. Not to worry, my favs … one book that leaves me wanting will not turn me away, because I know that writing is a very personal journey. We put a piece of ourselves into each book, no matter if we are writing about battling Fae, horror fright with clowns, or cowboys that know how to show you a thing or two …

ummmmm … love those cowboys … and where are all my cowboys, I ask. Man am I gonna miss Lorelei James’s main cowboy series.

Right now, I love everything to do with writing and reading fantasy/paranormal romance. From the in your face lovin’ with some vamps and shifters thrown in … Laurell K Hamilton, Lora Leigh, Lynsay Sands, Christine Feehan … to the middle ground sexy fireworks, and even a few behind closed doors for the intimates … Karen Chance, Eileen Wilks, Patricia Briggs.

Hopefully, one day, I will be able to send out this poll and have someone pick my name out of the hat. My first book is soooo close to publication (no matter if I choose the traditional route, or the self pub way of thinking) that I can practically feel it in my hands. And I am scared to death … lol … Take a look at what I’m thinking of using for the back cover, and feel free to comment …

Back Cover-

It was a small bid for independence.

She never asked for Fae assassins, uncontrollable powers, or a confusing protector that was too good looking for his own good.

But for her 21st birthday, Marin will get all that and more.

Will she be able to find a balance between the ups and downs, between the horrendous and the amazing, between the betrayals and the heart thumping romance?

I swear, my heart began to speed up just thinking of sharing that with the world. If only I could write the books, and let someone else do the promo part. Part of me cringes at the prospect of writing promos, queries, synopsis letters, etc … Maybe some those that enjoy the horror genre, and suspense, can tell me how to over come this part … because, really, I would rather face Stephen Kings idea of clowns than write another one of those right now. But until I can find someone willing to pull the weight for me … I guess I will continue to write and rewrite.

Back to the salt mines *sigh* 😛

I did managed to run across on publisher that only asks for the synopsis and the book itself. Sending my work out to Gone Writing Publishing wasn’t as harrowing as some of the agents and publishing houses out there.
http://gonewritingpublishing.blogspot.com/They are just opening their doors, and I can’t wait to see what new books they help get on the market for us to enjoy. Man, I love books. 😛

To wrap up, I will share some of the comments received from the ‘love your author’ poll …
https://lccdena.wordpress.com/I love Lee Preston and Lincoln Child. They write archaeology/history suspense novels.
https://lizajanechronicles.wordpress.com/I’m going to go new school. Mary Catherine Gebhard is an indie author who is so talented I foresee her becoming a bestseller.

Stephen King has to be my favorite author of the moment. My favorite changes as I read new and enticing stories, and Stephen King’s depth of storytelling in It will stay with me for quite some time. It’s a story that you find yourself dwelling on months later.
https://window2mysoul.wordpress.com/I have a big list for “favorite authors”, some are (no orders) Rabindranath Tagore, Bankimchandra Chatterjee, Saratchandra Chatterjee, Maupassant, Maugham, Doyle, Jules Verne, Hugo… Barbara Cartland
https://kasimskorner.wordpress.com/Can I say me or is that not humble enough? :p

Jane Austen she makes me grin foolishly and make me feel book contentment not just from her main novels but her minor works and letters

Great idea! There are really too many for me to list! But I did add a few. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, and I’m glad you enjoy my posts. Look forward to seeing you again soon, doors always open at Jean’s Writing.
