Day 5 Santa Book Box Contest

Okay… What is my addiction… I mean must have Writing Snack??? That would have to be Diet Coke… and it has to come from a fountain… no can or bottled coke for this country gal!!! And I would have to say that Burger King has the best Fountain Diet Coke 😛 I have to have a large diet coke when I write, when I eat, when I wake up, when I …. heck … I need that stuff just to live… lol… I call the guy at my closest gas station my Coke Dealer… they have some better good product when I don’t feel like driving to Burger King or Wendy’s…

Probably not… 😛 But my furry friends are always there as I hand write note, ideas, and story boards…

I like to sketch out rooms and outdoor areas so that I have a visual aid, and during the editing phase I always have my Emotions Thesaurus handy…

and that is my answer for day four of GWP 15 days of authors… 😛 now head HERE and sign up for the Gone Writing Publishing Newsletter, and you will be entered to win the Santa Box… filled with books from GWP authors…

Day 3 Contest

gwp

Let’s see what Mary has for us today… hmm… what is my all time favorite book??? I love Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but I also love to reread all of the Karen Chance books and the Patricia Briggs books… I don’t know that I can pick just one… I start from the beginning of Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken (same person-different series)’s books over and over… I just love the humor and romance…

If I have to pick just one it had to be one of the books form Patricia Briggs Alpha and Omega series… Let’s go with Dead Heat

511kW457fpL__SX329_BO1,204,203,200_

But dang it… i love her Mercy Thompson Series as well….. okay… let’s just go with this months favorite author, because my fav changes like a pregnant person’s cravings… and I can’t just mention my Alpha and Omega fav… it would be soooo unfair… I’m already leaving off a half dozen authors, and dozens of favorite books… and though Patricia Briggs keeps her lovin’ scenes behind closed doors, my smut obsessed mind just loves her… 😛 and here is my Mercy Thompson Pick… Night Broken

51WOLuNvCAL__SX308_BO1,204,203,200_

Okay… that’s if for my picks for now… don’t forget to sign up for the Gone Writing Publishing Newsletter HERE for a chance to win a Santa box filled with a book from each of us at GWP… winner will be announced Dec 18th… Happy Wordage, Tracey

This, the day Dec 2, I reveal to you one fact about myself that no one knows… hmmm… that’s a hard one… I am pretty open about all things ME!!! The good and the bad… I believe in airing it all, if asked… so maybe I should amend this… for me Day one will be ‘one fact no one knows because they forgot to ask’ lol… nope… it will have to be ‘one fact no one knows but my mother’ cause momma knows all :p

  • I made out with my best guy friend, behind his girls back… his girlfriend just happen to be my best female friend…(I know, screwed up) but I had been crushing on this guy for years, and she had a tendency to BE WITH anyone I glanced at (and then cheat on them)… so I totally felt justified(teenage thinking)… thank heavens I didn’t let thing go all the way, cause he said he believed in transparency. which basically meant that he liked to stir things up and see what reactions he could get… very glad to be out of HS…

Now, that you know my dirty secret, go sign up for the Gone Writing Publishing Newsletter… HERE …. and you will be entered to win a Santa Box full of free books by all of us at GWP… winner will be announced Dec 18th … woo who… Happy Wordage

V.L. Locey drops by on her blog tour

One of my Gone Writing Publishing peeps was kind enough to drop by and chat with us… she also wants to introduce us to the steamy life of female pro hockey… oooo… I can’t wait … 😛 enjoy

Fighting the bumps in the writing road…

I’d like to thank Finders Keepers for hosting me today! I love visiting blogs and chatting with folks about my books and the writing process. Most generally, the writing road is a relatively smooth one for me. I don’t usually struggle with writer’s block too often. If anything, my problem is having so many ideas vying to be written at once. It’s like trying to separate the wheat from the chafe at times.

“Yes muse, this idea about a women’s pro hockey team is boffo! The one about the ninja chimpanzees who fight zombies while riding Harley’s may not be exactly what we’re hoping to write, but good effort!”

You always have to speak to your muse politely or they get tiffy and no author wants a tiffy muse.

Occasionally I’ll get slapped with a round of doubt and start comparing myself to other author’s. When I begin to do this, I try to stop myself as quickly as I can. I cannot be J.K. Rowling no matter how much I wish I were. I can only be V.L. Locey, the erotic hockey romance author. If I am writing the best hockey romances that I can, then I need to stop making comparisons. Generally the round of doubt will only last a short while, I’m a pretty upbeat person overall. Hearing from a reader that enjoyed your book is the best way to help pave over the potholes in the writing road!

What do you do to fight off a case of the self-doubts? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments!

Skate hard and love deeply,

V.L. Locey

EXCERPT

It was on the tip of my tongue to ask him how, or why, he remembered so much from our years of wedded bliss. Instead, I marched into the bathroom, Pomeranians in hand, then shut the door on him, his tie, and those damned recollections of a time best left in the past.

I washed my face then set to work on detangling. I accomplished this with snarling expletives aimed at long dead ancestors. The boys were restless. I laid down my hairbrush then snuck over to the door. I couldn`t hear my ex on the other side. I cracked the door just enough to peer through. Tore was standing at the sliding glass door. He still cut a fine figure from the back even though he was now in his early fifties. Wide shoulders, lean waist, long legs. The sun made his straw-colored blonde hair look like spun gold. It was time to stop, Jane. I had thought to ask him to walk the dogs but after that Rumpelstiltskin moment, perhaps a brisk walk would do me good. I closed the door quietly. Ten minutes later I stepped out, face freshly scrubbed, hair beaten into submission, and dogs in dire need.

“I have to get dressed,” I told Tore when he turned from the city to look at me.

“You want me to leave?” I nodded. “We were married, Jane. Unless you have done some alterations, there is nothing I have not seen before.”

I felt a slight flush rushing up behind the freckles on my cheeks. “There have been no alterations. Go wait on the patio. I mean it, Tore. Don`t give me that stupid look. Go.”

“Stupid look? I have a stupid look?” he asked, a definite twinkle in his eye. A sharp comment was resting on my tongue. I swallowed it back to be nice. It was only seven am. Even ex-husbands deserve a small kindness from time to time.

Rebels and Readers Event

8498927

I was so nervous to be volunteering at this years Rebels and Readers Event… soo many readers and authors running around and I didn’t have a clue what to do… I felt like a fish out of water… 😛 thankfully, the feeling of community and acceptance was just as strong there (face to face) as it is online… I even managed to come out of my shell a little.. as a life long lover of living in the shadows being forward usually gives me heartburn…

By volunteering, I got the chance to interact and do a test run of group interaction… now don’t laugh… there are a lot of people that think this type of attitude is silly, or just an act… But I was that girl that got the solo, but didn’t really want it… I loved to sing, but thinking about all those people staring at me … well, I threw up before every concert… lol… being at the Rebels and Readers Event was a lot like that… (No vomit this time) … one of the things I have started doing in order to push my limits is to immediately tell people that I’m shy, that I don’t know what I’m doing, that I’m afraid I will screw up… this help by letting others know that I am not bitchy or stuck up, I just don’t know what to say or do… they gave me a task to concentrate on, and once I started feeling comfortable, I allowed my inner jokester to come out (the one that usually only comes out to play when I’m around friends and family) the other thing I have been doing to help myself become more outgoing??? I hum or sing to myself whenever the action slows down and I don’t have a task to focus on… silly, but it works for me … singing in front of people used to instill horrible fear, even more than speaking… by using my voice in this small way, I keep myself from hiding in those welcoming shadows…

Check out the Rebels and Readers’s BLOG for all kinds of book goodies

 12208239_561282254025081_784365183_n

The Event seemed to go really well… the authors voiced a lot of thanks to Amy and Tanya (Rebel and Readers Queens!!!) There were dozens of give-a-ways and raffle games… The crowd packed in from 10am-2pm on both Saturday and Sunday, enjoying all the free swag and numerous books to purchase… The above picture is from Sunday, which contain about half as many people… double the number of people you see in the picture and you still can’t imagine how packed it was… lol… walking through the room was a challenge but worth suffering the overwhelming body heat… Rock on Authors…

11033893_557711237709652_938735184380966700_n

Why the heck am I wearing a sweater, you ask??? it was under 40 degrees outside and the air conditioning was on high in the event areas to combat the number of people enjoying all the lovely books… Casey L. Bond took pity on me as I shivered in my short sleeved shirt (early in the event before the crowd brought in the body head) She is a lovely person, not to mention a awesome author… you guys should definitely check out her books… And how cute it is that sweater… I loved it, and need one of my own… lol… The sweater promotes the lovely Cambria Herber’s Nerd Series… Another wonderful author… she has so many must read books, as well as information (on her blog/follow the link) for authors like me that feel like they are drowning in the Promotional aspect of being a writer…

I am glad I got to volunteer this year… It gave me a chance to watch the authors in actions and take notes on what I should do when I become one of their number… Shocking Finds  will hopefully have a table to display itself next year… now I need to get cracking on finishing the next book… Seriously, the authors and readers were great… I can’t wait for next year…

Don’t for get the contest to win a free ebook copy of Shocking Finds (A Finder’s Keepers Novel) ends tomorrow at 10am… I thought the contest ended at noon, but sorry guys, it ends a little earlier than that… just go to CD Hersh’s Blog and leave a comment on Shocking Finds Friday Feature… Woo who…

* Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers.
* Drop them a comment to tip them off after you’ve linked them in the post.
* Post 7 interesting things about yourself.
All about ME:
Let’s start with the seven things about Tracey, that I will try to make interesting to all. Hummmm … where to start. Well since I added that race track photo to the top, why not start off with horse. I love horses. I love to ride them (though it has been years), especially run. To be on top of a horse as he flies across the ground, it feels like you’re the one flying. Everything about the animals speaks of majestic strength, of power. Being on top of one, you get to be included in that power, if only for a little while.
bcfari3bcfair2
*pics from trip to boyd county fare
Number two on my list … I’m gonna go with cowboys. I blame this on Lorelei James and her rough rider series. lol. Just lover her cowboy romances. Though it could also have something to do with the fact that I am a Kentucky girl. Cowboys and other men that work farms or with animals are just plain sexy. 😛 One day, I plan to write a contemporary/cowboy romance. But for now I will stick to my Fantasy/paranormal romances. I will edit the ba-zillion rough drafts until I want to scream, and then watch out. Here come the Cowboys.

For your third viewing pleasure, let’s look at some beach pictures. Although I have been to many different sandy shores, in both the heat and the cold, I am not a beach fan. I love the beautiful views to be found, buuutttt … Sand and Sharks, people. Sand and Sharks. I hate and fear them both. I firmly that sand has a mind of its own, and is more dangerous than the ever hungry shark. As soon as you enter the city holding your chosen beach destination, the sand goes to work. Without getting out of the car, you will start to feel the creeping, abrasive, sneaky sandy hands. Heaven help you if you are brave enough to go swimming. I always come out of the water (ocean or pool) with sand taking up residence inside my bathing suit. With shark, I would just like to eat one of them before they get me. At least them I will kinda deserve it. (at least in the sharks mind) lol
IMG_0635101_0128 IMG_0637
*my sunset/sunrise pics
On to number four … When I need a break from my characters and the worlds that the voices demand I continue to build and expand, I turn to crafts. Mostly, I experiment with oil paints. I enjoy the way you can blend and change the canvas. Plus, even if you use a drying agent, mixed in with your paints, you have at least three days to change your creation. Oils are very forgiving of mistakes. 😛 My other main craft revolves around yarn. Hats, scarves … stuffed animals, baby clothes … I will try anything. Everyone should include some form of arts and/or crafts in their life. Make sure that you use both sides of your brain, not just the fact based side 😛
1503593_269679273185382_1764276784_n1491181_269679226518720_811270110_n (2)IMG_02061492844_269679306518712_696855984_n11051536_467005466786094_384679138_nIMG_0299
*keep trying until you find your stress relief
Alrighty! Moving on to interesting fact number five. (I feel like I am on a dating site … lol) Anywho. I would say that my travel history is pretty interesting. I have been to beaches from the west to the east (see fact three). I have been to different Kentucky areas for singing competitions. As a teen I went on one of those Eruo tours, visiting France, London, Germany, Switzerland, etc… I have seen castles and homesteads from the 1800’s, I have gone cliff diving (very little cliff, not to dare devilish), and I have gone deep sea snorkeling. And still there is so much I want to see and do. Seeing and experiencing the world around me is very important to my life. I want to take in as much as I can.

*I need to start taking more pics
Two facts left. For number six, I will go with … Animals. I love them all. In fact, every time I go on a trip, I pick an animal to associate with that adventure. In Switzerland, I chose the mountain goat. I loved taking a tram up into the mountains and seeing them perched so perfectly on the rocky cliff face. At the beach, I usually go with an alligator. Most would probably go with sharks, but when I was small, I saw an alligator snatch a bird for his dinner. I have some charms for a bracelet of a necklace with representations of my vacations animal picks.

Lastly, but not least … I have MS (multiple sclerosis) but I refuse to stop me from living. I want to be apart of the world, not just sit on the sidelines and watch. I may not move at the same pace as others, or accomplish everything in a timely manner, but eventually get to the places I want to be. I have learned to work with my MS, instead of being smothered by it. When I wake up, I ask myself what I want to accomplish. Then I stop to think, what CAN I accomplish. If I’m having a bad day, I know that whatever I want to do isn’t out of the questions. I just need to wait and see if tomorrow will let me do more. This process has allowed me to become a new person, when I thought all had been lost. I avoid things that hurt my head, and take life one day at a time. I have event finished one novel that I am in the process of talking to a publisher about, and I have half a dozen other rough draft (but dang, the editing process vs my MS and dyslexia … let’s just say time consuming).

Writing is fun, crazy, doubt inducing, and addicting. Here is the link for those interested in listing to writer’s delve into their writing craze.

We all burn in different way, no matter our chosen artistic love. From the man that can see the beauty in a beaten down car from the 70’s – seeing it’s worth and potential, to the man that can take a simple dinner entry and make a display worthy of a king. From the woman knows that the weed infested barren land is waiting for someone with heart and ideas, to the woman that can take a few primary paints and turn a blank canvas into a visual world of escape. And the writer that create new worlds with jingles, shorts stories, or epic novels. Art and beauty burn in every corner of our world, if we stop long enough to see it.

For the month of April, I have decided to throw my hat into a few other competitions. So far I entered #nestpitch, one of the query contest being bandied about on twitter and the world wide web. Contest allow me to meet other authors, while improving my query needs. Nestpitch even held a #postitforward event that allowed us to work on our 35-word pitches.

I may be a little addicted to these contests. Although I have not won any agent attention with my endeavors, I have gained a lot of followers to my twitter account and my blog. I have meet many people that enjoy this crazy world of words. To round out my insanity, I decided to participate in Camp #NaNoWriMo and shoot for a 50k word goal. Insane is a mild explanation for this decision, especially since I will be adding new chapters – ones that need to be transcribed into my computer – while editing previous chapters. That is a lot of work that will leave little time for real life. But as I have been feel less than energetic of late, this project will allow my mind an avenue of release.
