library-con

Yesterday, I spent the evening with my writer’s group at LibraryCon, a small town fair. OMG… it was sooo hot. Just let me tell you, my Multiple Sclerosis was not happy. I ended up eating sugar-free icee, running my little squirt bottle fan, and sweating like an out of shape marathon runner. In the end, I lasted for most of the event, but left a few minutes before the rest of the crowd.

Mary Shortridge and Cathy Shaffer made it out to this small fair. The rest of our group were sick, working, or out of town. These gals are awesome, and great with words. Cathy is on the left and Mary on the right.

Sadly, I didn’t make any book sales. I did sale a bunch of jewelry… In fact, as soon as up get caught up with my book edits, I will need to make more earrings. The crystal pendants and the rocks with melted metal pendants were a big hit. I just hope I don’t drip heated metal on my skin when I make replacements..

Mary, thankfully, helped me separate all the necklaces that had become tangled with each other. I had found some nifty see-through colored bags to hole them in.

Our author table sat across from the peeps with all the paintings (they had a set up to do balloon animals), close to the peeps with the pool noodles, and beside the JCP table (with their hair products, they were putting spray hair color on people). We were also close to the book mobile and the icee van. yummmm…. this year there was sugar-free (good for me) pina coloda icee

The fair had a few fun ideas and decorations, like a costume contest and Dr who/star wars cut outs. also… I saw some gals from the local paranormal society. there were a few other tables out, but I didnt have time to see what was going on. oh…. and the table for PAWS, which is all about animals 😛

All in all, it was a fun evening, even if it was bloody hot.

if you want to see some of my jewelry, I have some pics up on my arts and crafts site… just click the link at the top of the page… Happy wordage everyone

Add a little sex, humor, and fighting to your Novel

Writing you novel, and looking for the best way to keep your readers interested??? Here are a few aspects that I always try to include… fighting, funny, and fu- … uh, I mean loving.. 😛 loving from friendships to love of your life. Bring you story to life with emotions.

myth

Finding the words to make you Novel memorable!!

The easiest way to write about something is to know it inside and out. If you want to understand the inner workings of the restaurant business??? Want to be able to describe the feeling of flying through the air??? How about explaining the reality of living on a horse ranch???

Watch, Ask, and Do!!! Stalk local restaurants, pull out your pad and pen as you interview anyone that will stand still long enough, and see if you can help out in the kitchen (get hired on a month/summer basis). Take a flying lesson and do all you can to learn the ropes. Lasso yourself a cowboy and … Sorry, got distracted by the thought of cowboys and lassos, but I think you get the picture. Do anything and everything you can think of to learn the feel, the taste, the sounds, the smells, and the sights of the world you want to create.

Sex

love

But what happens when you want to add a little sexual tension to your novel? How about those full blown sex scenes?? And not just the act of sex… the emotions behind either the attraction to another, or the feelings before, during, and after. How does your character’s mindset change because of the thought or the act of intimacy.

Some of the things we add to our novels are either impractical or impossible for us to learn about first hand. Remember that song Can’t Buy Me Love?? Well, you can’t force a love connection just to learn what it feels like. You might not want to try out some of the bedroom gymnastics portrayed by the lustier of novels either. What in the world do you do now?

Well, you could always make it up, use your imagination. But where to start? And how are you going to get your reader to pay attention when your words feel rushed or halting? LOL I suggest you look it up. For me, and my only mildly blush worthy novels, I read it all… the worst of the worst literary porn (I love my smut, I just cant write it), the sweet Happily Ever Afters, and the racy novels. And especially the free short stories on amazon. Those shorts are great for getting the mechanics down. Not always, but usually. Sometimes I’m reading the getting-busy part and I think – no way, he couldn’t even reach her while she does that… lol…

I love romance, from the behind-the-bedroom-door actions to the break-the-bed-and-hope-the-neighbors-don’t-call-the-police sex-capaids. By the time I finished writing Shocking Finds and my other rough drafts, my book shelf looked like a How to Become a Porn Addict guide. lol … My mother borrowed my kindle and just about had a heart attack. I had to show her that I had actually taken notes on different positions so that she didn’t think I had a problem.

But we learn to become writers by reading, so learn about being a romance writer by reading … romance, light hearted or pornish. Read each book and find the scenes that speak to your emotions, and your fantasies. How do they describe the feel of a man’s hand along your thigh, caressing your back, or jerking you into his arms. Learn how to put the feel of each action into the scene, don’t just tell the reader it happened.  Get your own romance collection. But make it your own. Plagiarism is a capital offence in the writer community.

Humor

Humor can be even harder to portray than passion. We live in a diverse world, with varying senses of humor. Have you ever been at a party and stood with your friends as they doubled over in laughter, all while you looked on in confusion? If liquor wasn’t involved, chances are that you either missed the joke or just didn’t find it funny. Or worse … Have you told a story that brought tears of laughter to your eyes, but looked around to see that your friends were scratching their heads, going over your words, and looking for the humor?? Reading is only the first step to attacking this issue.

Okay. Reading something that you find funny might not help you to impress your friends, but reading something that millions of other readers considered humorous may improve your writing. Humor is just as important as passion, when it comes to adding emotions to your novel. You want your reader to get lost in the worlds you create. If they can feel each scene, then you are on the right track. This is something that I hope to get better and more polished at as I continue to write.

If all else fails, try a comedy club or two. Get in a frame of mind that helps your words to come out in a flowing manner, instead of just dropping a joke into you story now and them. You have to build up to the laugh, like a mini-story within your story. Personally, I don’t even consider what kind of emotion or humor I can add to my story when I’m writing that rough draft. As I bring my story to life I try to see where they are going, how I can build up to that moment when the emotions (no matter if it is passions, anger, failure, gut wrenching sadness, or humor) on the page reach full tilt.

Fighting

fighting

Oooo… Fighting, bloodbaths, all out war… or maybe just a cat-fight. Okay, this one is easy. First you make sure that your annoying neighbor, with the yappy dog, and lack of parking etiquette is home. You do some stretches, get your muscles loose and ready, and then walk over and punch him in the face… see, easy…

What? You think that could lead to jail time, or just finding yourself lying on his doorstep as you watch little cartoon birdies fly around your head. Hmm. Well the other method is much harder. It also involves a great deal of reading, or you could take a martial arts class to learn the feel of some of the moves and defenses. I was lucky enough to take karate classes as a child. That was long ago but some of the motions are hard to forget.

But fighting and violence isn’t just accomplished in a fist fight. You can stripe the hide off of someone’s sense of worth with words a lot easier than you can with a sidekick. I didn’t grow up in a household that contained harsh words, but some of you might be able to call on those memories. Pull them up and use them to leave your reader sobbing and looking for the ice cream, clinching their fists on behalf of your character, or maybe feeling anxiety as you add more turmoil to your character’s life.

This is the hardest emotion for me to bring to my novels. So of course, I practice. The best results come when you hang out with a friend or two and then… Okay, just kidding. This is something that needs to be done in your head, or out loud as you drive down the highway. Alone.

I usually look like an insane person when I’m driving. Sometimes bringing myself to tears with harsh words. Your friends can only help if you sit down and they are willing to have a heart to heart walk down memory lane with you. Otherwise … prepare to look a little loony as you fight with yourself, as you cruise down the highway.

No matter what you decide to write, what you want to bring to your story, how you want to portray your character’s lives and their world… remember to have fun with it. Enjoy what you write, and hopefully others will love it as well. And keep researching… life is about change and growth. Personally, I hope that each year I become better and better at building my worlds.

Happy wordage, Tracey Clark

 “I wonder of the world”
 By T. Clark

 I wonder of the world
 That happens all the day

 The innocent abyss
 That comes when children play

 I wonder how they stay
 In their place and time

 While climbing the mountains
 Or swimming the ocean wide

 I wonder if they know
 There’s no one really there

 I wonder if they see
Their friends are made of air

 I wonder if they feel
 Their mountain is a hill

 Or that the ocean blue
 A rocky shore that’s still

 I wonder what they see
 When in their jungle hut

Or how they learn to tame
 Their wild jungle mutts

 I wonder of this world
 That happens all the day

 I wonder how I lost
 My innocent days of play

Killjoys is back

I am both excited and saddened. Killjoys (a show on syfy) is back for its fifth season. Sadly, this is supposed to be the last season.

killjoys

love this show… so far there has only been one episode, but it just reminded me why hate that the seasons are so short. lol.

I love kickass Dutch and her boys (John and Davin). And all the crazy space hijinks they get into.

Their interactions always make me laugh. I would watch this show for years, if they would continue to run it. I love when Pree sings…

killjoys Pree

And Zeph and her brainy awkward ways…

killjoys zeph

But my absolute favorite character is Khlyen. Even when I thought he was evil (kinda evil … lol) I looked forward to the episodes with him in them. And cried like a baby when he died (don’t worry. He’s back. this is syfy after all…. lol)

This is one of the best Syfy shows in a while. I can’t wait for more!!!! Oh… I almost forgot Kendry. She has gone from super bitch, to pregnant bitch, and this year she is a kickass bitch. lol. Way cool.

I hope you enjoyed the Pinterest pics.

March should be ‘Book Month’

lol… I love March… not for the number to birthday parties my family celebrates (omg, there are so many birthdays… May must be a popular time to get frisky, lol… cause ten months later my family has babies popping out… March and June, those are our baby times :P)

unlike everyone else, I entered to world in October, and I love that time of year… so I don’t love March for its weather or spookiness… nope that all happens for me in Fall…

I don’t even love March for its beauty, cause let’s be honest… it is a little sad looking out in the Kentucky March landscapes… nope… I love March for all the new books I get to read… this year, four of my favorite authors have books coming out in March… I already received Patricia Brigg’s latest Alpha and Omega novel “Burn Bright”

burn bright

an excellent work, Patricia Briggs delivered another great read… her characters are live 3D, and so real they practically jump off the page… the love story between Charles and Anna caught and held my attention from the first paragraph in the short story that entered their relationship into her world… I love getting little insights into Charles’s past and his struggles and strength… I especially enjoy seeing the ways he secretly cared for and protected Mercy (from Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series)… and Anna is no light weight character… she is damaged but her will is iron… she shows that no matter the horror of her past, her love for Charles will never break, in fact her love lifts her to a place where she has the power to save the day, protect those she loves, and be the partner that Charles has always needed in his life…

I enjoyed every page of Burn Bright, and now I am waiting on my next March read, Christine Feehan’s Covert Game…

covert game

I have been re-reading the Ghostwalker series, even though I have read each novel a number of times already… but feeling apathetic about my own novels, I need something else to kill time until my favorite authors deliver their latest reads… I know that I will eventually get back to writing my own stories, the people in my head wont allow me to ignore them forever… but for now, I am impatiently waiting for Covert Game to come out on March 20th… as well as Shelly Laurenston’s ‘Hot and Badgered’ and Lynsay Sands’s ‘Twice Bitten’, which will be published on March 27th…

with all the books coming out this month, who wouldn’t love March

Happy Wordage

Said? Update the vocab!

I don’t know about the rest of ya, but I feel a little like I am writing a Dick & Jane primary book when I use ‘Said’ too often in my novels… but then, some peeps believe that ‘Said’ is the only way to go… but just look at all these alternatives… why limit your writing???

e707271ecf9e2e164662350bd1e75ace

I absolutely love Pinterest… there is so much to find… with this list, you can show your characters even more clearly… I have used about half of these naturally, but there are a lot of choices that I never thought of…

as for the authors that believe that ‘Said’ is the best way, I have some favorites that I love to read… even though I disagree, their stories are still enjoyable and re-readable… I love to read my favorites over and over… Slow writing is usually the only way to make me lose interest… so if my go-to authors want to stick with ‘Said’, then to each their own…

I believe that each author needs to follow their own path… there are some rules that all of us need to follow, but the bottom line in writing for me is to always enjoy the creation…

anywho… I am off to play with some of these said-replacements… Happy wordage everyone…

Watch out for Mother Nature!!!

soooo… Deer?  Cute or Dangerous? lol… that’s easy … sooo cute…. I mean… we have all seen Bambi…. Disney loves to bring us cute kids, dead parents, and life lessons… Deer are even a little majestic…

deer3

But on my street, Deer can also mean Dangerous… lol… like when they decide to jay-walk in the middle of the night… or your are out to get the mail and momma Deer starts barking (yep… barking… it is a horrible sound… like someone with bronchitis)… keep your distance, and they are cuties…

but the other night I drove down to Wendy’s, used a back road, and out of nowhere about nine Deer decided to sprint across the road… the last one to cross almost brushed the front of my car, it was so close… sooooo, yeah…. the Deer around here are soooo not afraid of people… in fact, they will probably start asking us for rent soon…

deer2

and then there was the one that freaked mom out… she had gone out to smoke on the porch, and momma Deer didn’t like how close the ‘human’ was to her little one… annnnnddddd, cue the barking… lol… after that, mom started carrying a taser out to smoke… but she still loves to look at them, so staying inside isn’t an option…

and then there are the Turkey population… it is wild flippin kingdom around here, I swear… I should start writing shifter novels, and sale them as true stories… lol… but anywho… turkeys

turkey

awwwww…. look, they are such great moms… bah… when you live next to a bird sanctuary, great mom means breeder….

it isn’t that I begrudge them a little bird-lovin…. and they are kind of cute (at least from the neck down)

turkey2

sadly, they were born with a face that only a mother could love… lol… in fact, I don’t think I should publically explain what that hanging, flopping neck reminds me of… lol… but still… not that Dangerous…

or are they…. (cue the horror movie music)

turkey1

When you are driving down the road and spot a procession of Turkey, you know they have organized and are prepared to do some damage…

or in my case, you see a line of about 13 Turkeys head for the road, and think “man, I hope I get past them before the suicidal things dash into the road”… lol… okay, so that may be a little over the top thinking-wise, but when the animals decide that it is okay to interact with the human (or at least, they act like you are only living there on their sufferance) … well that is a different matter…

but if swear, if I ever catch the Deer and the Turkeys chatting it up (making war plans), I will sooooo be out of here… lol… so I guess my answer to my own question would be that yep, they are cute, but cute is usually dangerous… 😛

happy wordage, Tracey

Very Excited to announce…

Man oh Man… it has been a while since I have jumped on here… but the absence wasn’t completely downtime… nope… I am hoping to have my latest book up for sale by early March… woo who…

Here’s an excerpt for everyone to enjoy while we wait for things like book covers and final edits… without further ado, here is Artistic Beauty (name may/may not change)…

Chapter One

Andrew Skymann snapped awake. His body shaking, the sheets soaked in sweat. He smelled the pain and fear, the humiliation, as it permeated his bedroom. Slowly sitting up, he roughly scrubbed the exhaustion from his face. Reaching for the pen and paper he kept on his bedside table, Andrew quickly took down as much of the nightmare as he could remember. People were willing to pay top dollar for the terrors living inside his mind. So, what if he couldn’t sleep? At least he had insomnia in a beautiful three story home.

“Andrew?” He jerked slightly, seeing Jacob’s head poke around the bedroom door. The lingering effects of his nightly terrors were making reality a little cloudy, as his twin brother stepped into the room.

It took a moment to erase the feeling that he was somehow in two places at once. “What’s up?” Barely giving Jacob a second thought, Andrew continued to scribble in his notebook, nodding slightly to himself. Quickly writing the word doppelganger into the top corner of the page.

“Heard your caterwauling and decided to check it out,” Jacob deadpanned.

“All good here.” Andrew waved the issue away. Nightmares were nothing new, and not worth talking about.

“Since you’re up, what are your thoughts on owning a restaurant?”

Andrew fell back and threw his arm over his eyes. “The kid isn’t going to allow you to take over his life the same way the rest of us have,” he mumbled.

“I heard that and I disagree. Samuel is a cooking genius. I’m merely making sure that he has room to flourish.”

Jacob sounded so sincere that Andrew’s jaw dropped as he pushed himself back into a sitting position. Before their twenty-fifth birthday, and already Andrew and Jacob were well on their way to owning what was a very lucrative business. Jacob oversaw all promotions and stood in the spotlight, allowing Andrew to do what he loved best. Write. He wasn’t sure what Jacob did, exactly, but his brother was always on the go, and had a knack for business. But their little brother, Samuel, wasn’t interested in the spotlight.

Andrew ran his hands over his head, roughing up his already sleep tousled hair. “Look. You’ve earned the latitude to make any, and all, snap decisions when it comes to our personal business dealings. But maybe, just maybe, you should talk to Samuel first. He’s going to know that a restaurant has nothing to do with art or our PR Company, and it unquestionably doesn’t have anything to do with houseboat rentals.”

Living on Lake Cumberland, houseboat rentals could be found on every corner. And still Jacob managed to make their fleet the number one go to when vacationing on the lake.

“We both know that kid will always feel like the baby brother in the family. Which he is, but that’s beside the point.”

“Jacob-”

“Technically, it’s too late. The contractor called last night after you went to bed. Said the kitchens are ready to go. Now I just need to get Samuel to fine tune it the way he wants.”

“We run art, not food. Our studio spaces comprise of painters, writer’s groups and classes, and other non-edible goods. Then there are the PR accounts, the ones that have nothing to do with food or art. Why in the hell do we need a kitchen?”

“Hey… I’m always looking for new business opportunities. Besides…What about the studio I designed in our main building for Marcus. You said that would never work, and everything worked out fine.” Jacob crossed his arms and leaned against the door jam. His position speaking volumes.

Andrew tried one more time to get through his twin’s stubborn skull. “That’s architecture, and again, non-edible. That only worked because Jackson decided to take you up on the offer as well. If you hadn’t thought to include our cousin in the mix that deal would have died before Marcus could get his hands around your neck.”

“Big brother was delaying the inevitable. Marcus could have had his own company years ago, instead he ran off and enlisted.” Jacob threw his hands in the air, and had the gall to look affronted, as he stomped out the door.

Andrew threw off the covers, got out of bed, and followed Jacob out of the room. Moving to the windows of his living area, he asked, “Do you really think you can get Samuel on board. I know you have his future in mind, but everything he makes is sold under our mother’s maiden name. He obviously doesn’t want recognition. And you don’t know how to do low profile!”

Andrew couldn’t see much of their gated community in the pre-dawn hours. The dark hid acres upon acres for Marcus and Jackson to build luxury homes on. Beautiful homes close to a Lake Cumberland marina that Jacob had also managed to talk him into buying. Really, a restaurant was relatively low risk for one of Jacob’s schemes.

“I’ll start some coffee. You owe me pancakes for that comment and for waking me up.” Jacob’s voice continued to mumble as he headed for the stairs.

“Ha!” Andrew would have called Jacob on the obvious lie but his twin was already gone, no doubt off to restart the coffee pot. He didn’t believe for one minute that Jacob’s sleep had been disturbed. Andrew’s bedroom was located on the third floor of their massive home. Jacob never would have heard his cries unless he was already up and prowling. Especially not from his rooms in the partially submerged basement.

The man had to be part bat. Half of the basement was underground and surrounded by dirt, while the other half could be considered ground level, widows and all. Most of Jacob’s rooms had a gloomy feel. His office was different, and received copious amounts of morning sun. At least it did once the sun was up.

Andrew preferred his rooms, with their numerous windows and skylights. He had enough nightmares to get story ideas from without sleeping in dungeon-like accommodations.

Damn, it was too early for this.

Pitching his voice loud enough for Jacob to hear, Andrew suggested, “We need to have Samuel come over and cook. That way I can remember what kind of art he makes.”

Jacob would do his meddling no matter what anyone said. They might as well get some food out of Samuel before the kid killed him and became the Betty Crocker of cell block D.

Just the thought of Samuel’s cooking had Andrew’s stomach sitting up and grumbling its demands. It would almost be worth the nightmare and an early morning wakeup call from an overwhelmingly pushy twin, if they could get Samuel to fix a batch of his world-famous flapjacks.

The thought of his little brother’s cooking had a Pavlovian effect. Andrew’s mouth created so much saliva that swallowing became an issue as he stumbled for the stairs.

Every step had his joints popping and cracking as he made his way to the first floor, his muscles complaining the entire way. Why in the hell did they need such a huge house? So many stairs … Coffee. Neeeeeed coffee.

A man should not be forced to descend mountains before the early bird had time to leave its nest. Andrew made a mental note to look into an elevator as soon as his brain began to function with more than one cylinder. Today was bound to suck. But then any day that began hours before the sun came up was a day to be leery of.

The delicious aroma of fresh coffee pulled Jacob into a better mood. He had already consumed more than half a pot, but the smell of freshly brewing caffeine had always worked better than any drug. Today was destined to be a trial no matter what he did, but a pot or two in the morning was always a necessity. Andrew’s nightmares on top of Jacob’s lack of sleep had a neon sign glaring for them to stay in the house until the coast was clear. If only they could call in sick, and play hooky. A day spent hiding from all responsibilities sounded like heaven. Any other weekend, Jacob would be hell-bent on dragging his brother out for a short yachting excursion but they were booked for the evening.

The top of Jacob’s to-do list involved pulling Andrew out of his office to attend a gallery showing for one of their local up-and-coming artists. Brigit McDernmit already had rave reviews from even the snobbiest of critics. If he could get her to do a few commissions now (before she became well known) the pieces would soon become investments worth thousands. Hopefully.

But a few paintings wouldn’t help Jacob with his brotherly duties. He needed to sort Andrew out, and soon. His twin’s recent fantasy series was quite erotic. It had a completely different feel when compared to his horror-mystery novels. When Jacob had asked why Andrew was upping the scales on the flesh intake, his brother had joked that sex sells.

“It was a no brainer that my characters needed to get physical from time to time. Skin hunger is a dangerous and ever present need, even in the world of make-believe,” Andrew had said. Whatever. All Jacob heard was, “Blah, blah, blah; I need to get laid.” So, that’s what would happen.

Jacob had the perfect antidote planned. His date had insisted on making tonight a double date. Katlynn had claimed that only Andrew would do for her best friend. And had assured him that her friend was a sure thing, especially since Sally’s sights were set on his twin. One night of French food and pretentious art patrons, and Andrew’s skin hunger would be a thing of the past.

“Cofffeeee! Must have coffee!” Andrew’s feet barely left the floor as he shuffled into the kitchen, rubbing his back as he moved. Ringing with sweat, his reddish-brown skin had an ashy undertone but at least his eyes had brightened a little with that first whiff of aroma’s best. Breakfast and a few gallons of the beautiful black nectar and their day could start.

“On the breakfast bar. And Samuel’s on his way.”

And looky there. Andrew perked right up. “Oh, thank heavens! Perhaps we do need a family chef.”

Family chef was right. The kid could fix damn near anything to perfection. His rack of lamb could bring tears to the eye. His fried rice went exquisitely with any meal. Every dish was divine, but his breakfast creations were damn near moan worthy. Especially his flapjacks with powdered sugar and homemade preserves.

Jacob shook his head. “It wasn’t me. Samuel saw the kitchen lights come on. Don’t know what he was doing up. Just said he would be right over.” The kid was probably cooking anyway. He might as well use his gifts where others could partake of the end results.

“Morning.” Samuel had entered the house without making a sound. He looked around the kitchen before moving to the breakfast bar and the coffee pot. Filling a cup and taking a sip he sang out, “Tsk, tsk! Ten-foot-high privacy gating does not negate the need to lock your doors.” The little bastard was too damn chipper.

“Watch the sass, kid. And you had better have some preserves with you.” Andrew got straight to the heart of the matter. They were running low and breakfast wouldn’t be the same without some blackberry.

“Chill. Just drink the wonderfully dark liquid and think happy thoughts.” With a grin, Samuel added, “Besides, would I show up this early without a gift. I even brought a mixed case. I’ve added cherry rhubarb this year, so tell me what you think.”

Jacob could feel the grin fighting to spread across his face. A whole case of Samuel’s creations. “Tell you what … You fix up some of your flapjacks and I’ll gladly try anything you want.”

A few cases and Jacob could be talked into just about anything. A lifetime supply and he would gladly sign over his half of the business that he had worked so hard to build with Andrew.

Boy, but the kid could cook.

“Flapjacks comin’ right up. The preserves are by the back door. You can-”

That was all Jacob heard as he rushed to beat Andrew to the goods. Coffee and lack of sleep ceased to matter as that magic word came out of Samuel’s mouth. Preserves!

They were off their bar stools and racing down the hall. It was always the same, a competition to have first pick of the delicious concoctions. The blueberry and the blackberry were always the first to go. Whatever Samuel’s secret was, those two came out better than any other brand out there. The race was on, not that Samuel would refuse to make more if they ran out. Still, the call to grab the prize first, to beat each other to that first jar, had them pushing and running like they were five-years-old.

Rounding into the screened in veranda, Jacob jerked to a stop in surprise.

“What the hell?” Andrew asked, confusion in his voice as he collided with Jacob’s back.

Jacob slowly moved out of the way, allowing Andrew to see the three cases sitting in the middle of the room like well-placed Christmas presents. Their veranda had never looked so good. Finally, he allowed his grin to break out across his face.

Andrew’s jaw dropped to his chest. “I thought he said a case? Not three.”

Quickly moving to the closest box, Jacob commented, “This is what they call a gift horse, so stop checking out its teeth. Let’s get these open so we can mix and match a box of our favorites to keep. You know he’ll be carting the rest to Aunt Sheri and the others.” Samuel’s preserves were a big hit with everyone; friends, family, or strangers.

Sheri and Samson Skymann had become more than merely their aunt and uncle. He and his brothers had always thought of them more as parents. Jacob didn’t know where he and his brothers would be without Sheri and Samson. The couple had added four extra mouths to their already large family of two sons and a daughter, becoming the parents that they had never known.

Shaking thoughts of the past from his head, he moved to the cases of preserves. “We can-” Jacob froze, as he opened the first box. Now his jaw fell to the floor. Wow didn’t begin to cover the sight of so many of their favorites! God bless that kid and his wonderful thoughtfulness!

Jacob looked over at a similarly stunned Andrew. The case that Jacob had opened contained jar after jar of delicious blueberry divinity. One glance over at his twin showed that the case in front of Andrew held nothing but blackberry goodness. That wonderful, wonderful kid!

Andrew finally met Jacob’s gaze, one of his rare smiles breaking free. “Forget the flapjacks, and find me a spoon.”

A low masculine chuckle escaped Jacob’s throat at his twin’s understatement. Two spoons coming right up.

–hope you enjoyed your first taste of the Skymann Brothers… this book follows Andrew as he finds and falls in love with Brigit McDernmit… that’s if he can seal the deal before the bad luck hot her heels steals her life…

I am a country-twang gal from the bluegrass state. Kentucky is a hot bed of horses, cave systems, and whiskey. And I love all three. With my pugs and bossy kitty cat, I spend my days writing and working social media. I write with the help of the voices pushing me to create worlds for them to live in. Fantasy Romance, Contemporary Romance, and eventually some cowboys (because cowboys live in a group all their own, yummmm)… These are the genres that I love best. Oil paints, crafts, dealing with Multiple Sclerosis, and writing into the dead of night… this I my life!!!

What’s a Walk-About

anyone remember this guy???

bc6853e7b0618f2d7ac98064612c6895

lord-amercy… I loved the movie Crocodile Dundee… made my mother rent the VHS (yep, I’m that old… lol) every time we decided to rent videos… I always wanted to rewatch my favorites… as a child, everyone thought it was odd… as an adult, okay, they still think I’m odd… lol… but the jokes on them, I can save a crap load of money by rewatching the hoarder’s nest of movies and TV series I have stocked up over thirty odd years… muhahahaha… 😛

anywho… I totally just got off track…

in the movie, Paul Hogan talks about going walk-about… I loved the idea… granted, now that I’m older (and have a license) I prefer a Drive-About… basically, I pack mom up (this time the dogs came) and hit the road… check out the signs as you go, hit the welcome center when you pass into a new state, and maybe have one or two ideas before you leave (but that last one isn’t necessary…)

this time around, we went to Helen, GA (very cool place) … they are a small, German themed town… and the hotel we stayed on butted up to the creek… I’m calling it a creek, but I could be wrong… It was about 15 – 20 feet across… with lots of rocks to break up the water flow, so you get that babble-brook feel…

but this is a walk-about, so you know we didn’t drive straight there… nope… we started a little closer to home… mom had been begging to see the Arc up near Cincinnati for months, so that’s where we started… and I decided to video the walk through… now I just need to figure out how to share it around… I decided that the Arc and other stops might make great writing prompts for peeps that didn’t have the time to travel around…

I also hoped to get some great ideas for my Finder’s Keepers series… I saw some hope for characters other than Marin, or maybe for shorts ??? or maybe one of my other series that I haven’t had time to work on… lol… anywho… I am willing to share…

we videos from the Arc, some from Helen, and some from the Tennessee – Georgia line (the lookout mountain area)… lookout mountain is where the caves, fun parks, and underground waterfalls come into play… sooo yeah… lots of work, but then I will be sharing them with y’all… so if you are a writer, feel free to use anything you see in them that sparks your pen into motion… 😛 later and happy wordage

the end is Nigh … #RRBC

save the tears for tomorrow… we still have a few more stops to enjoy…

the 30th…. sigh… on the up side, we are steps away from falling leaves and cool breezes… ahhh…. I am giddy just thinking about it… I would say that my love of Fall is all about my MS, but the season has always been one of my Faves… so I was wondering??? could there be a connection between my birthday (in October) and my love of the season… hmmm… what about y’all…

4 out of 5 read-ologists recommend this WordPress.com site. ups and downs of writer's insanity and day to day life. I will write whatever makes the voices happy, for a writer that ignores her inner voices is merely a mental breakdown waiting to happen. Keeping the voices happy and creating new worlds for them to play in is my main goal.
